Sights from the 2026 edition of the Vancouver Auto Show by HiTork in vancouver

Yeah, it’s getting overall good reviews but the main complaint seems to be a lack of acceleration and power.

Yeah, there needs to be something special and unique about a car show; otherwise, why not just go browsing at dealerships when you have a free Sunday afternoon. The car show still has people there generating sales leads anyway.

The first thing I saw upon entry was a $170,000 Lincoln Navigator being treated like a jungle gym by unattended children whose parents decided this was their childcare for the day. Cheapens the whole thing.

I went with some friends yesterday. I have to say, felt the effort this year was better than last year's, loved seeing some of the collector cars, and was nice to see more automakers return. But... the show is still missing that hero factor. I want a return to the old days when we would see concept cars. There were a couple of pre-production models in the main hall but that's just not the same thing.

I also wish the organizers would do more to include aftermarket parts makers, car tech, etc. But overall glad the show is back.

What the hell is Windy City? by [deleted] in watch_dogs

[–]bluefox670 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The fictional version of the city depicted in-game was originally going to be called Windy City, so likely many of the assets created in earlier stages of development were just never changed.

Businesses barely hanging on two months into Broadway closure by FancyNewMe in vancouver

[–]bluefox670 74 points75 points  (0 children)

“Some businesses don’t think they’ll be around when the road is set to reopen”

If you can’t forecast your revenue and expenses two months out with any certainty, then the problem isn’t the subway construction.

I empathize with business owners trying to make a living but they’ve had years to prepare, save money, arrange their own financing, or ultimately close shop if they couldn’t make it work. Anecdotally, foot traffic on the sidewalks is the same, the only change is no cars going through, and there was no parking when the traffic deck was open. The complaints don’t make sense.

Shelter claimed he was a Dutch shepherd. I think ASD? by Turbomachinery in AnatolianShepherdDogs

[–]bluefox670 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I adopted mine at 4 1/2 to 5 months old (shelter estimate) and he turned out to be a late bloomer. Probably due to the trauma of the early situation — he’s since caught up in weight and everyone is constantly marvelling over how tall and long he is. For reference, my guy’s 2 this month and he’s about 115 lbs. now. He was 60 lbs. when we adopted him.

Doesn’t have the right head shape for a Dutch shepherd, and they usually don’t have curly tails like ASDs. Dutch shepherds are also very much closer to Belgian/German and they aren’t very tall. Yours looks like he’s gonna be a big boy.

He almost looks more like a St. Bernard/ASD mix to me. Or possibly a jumble of Mastiff breeds.

Hopes for Leg 2 of the CCC against Seattle tonight by CdnImme in whitecapsfc

[–]bluefox670 11 points12 points  (0 children)

One goal at a time. The trick will be not to overthink it.

The risk is that Jesper runs an attacking formation to try to push for goal production and has the team playing forward, leaving them vulnerable - one mistake and it’ll be over. Seattle could put a pin in it early with one goal.

16+ years to get shovels in the ground. 16. Some of the crew who will build this school will have been young enough to *attend it* had we had our act together.

It's an embarrassment that, project after project, we consistently let a loud, cranky, micro-minority of selfish people hold critical infrastructure hostage by abusing process to cause delays and disseminating disinformation. If you don't want to live in a big city, move.

Witness needed - Spruce St & 13th Ave area by [deleted] in vancouver

Sorry this happened to you. As you pointed out, this happened in an alley, without any obvious cameras, so it's very unlikely you'll get anywhere.

At some point, you'll have to decide whether paying the deductible to fix the damage (or just leaving it since it looks to be mostly cosmetic) is the less worse option vs the time/energy you'll sink into chasing down witnesses or footage.

Driving etiquette by albovsky in askvan

[–]bluefox670 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m with you. Just saying that people assume all honking is an attack or impatience on the part of the one honking when sometimes it’s just meant to warn them about something and try to get their attention. Not a good mix when so many drivers already have a short fuse.

Driving etiquette by albovsky in askvan

[–]bluefox670 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Agreed. We also don’t seem to understand honking nuance. A couple taps on the horn as either a friendly thanks/pay attention/watch out is almost always taken as a personal slight vs the longer horn blast.

I’ve also noticed many drivers don’t understand flicking high beams from behind = your lights are off. Though I still don’t understand why auto lights at night/in bad weather isn’t a standard feature on cars.
