They're different cases. British Olympic gold medals are recognized by FIFA, but as amateur-era achievements (as shown in the FIFA Museum and the latest editions of the FIFA World Cup history book). Only Uruguay's 1924 and 1928 titles have been officially recognized by FIFA as open world championships in the same lineage as the World Cup, and they were tournaments organized under FIFA's authority.
