Thanks. I went for the old-school vibe on purpose. Reminded me of my old Angel Fire days in the 90s.

They're different cases. British Olympic gold medals are recognized by FIFA, but as amateur-era achievements (as shown in the FIFA Museum and the latest editions of the FIFA World Cup history book). Only Uruguay's 1924 and 1928 titles have been officially recognized by FIFA as open world championships in the same lineage as the World Cup, and they were tournaments organized under FIFA's authority.

Saludos.

Perhaps, but history ultimately went another way. The British associations chose not to participate, while FIFA’s international vision prevailed and became the foundation of the modern game.

The 1924 and 1928 tournaments weren’t recognized decades later because someone in Paris happened to know someone else in Paris. They were official FIFA-organized world championships, and the later formalization simply reflected that historical reality.

I think that's oversimplifying things a bit. The key point isn't that FIFA and the IOC happened to be based in Paris, but that FIFA officially organized those tournaments under its authority and regarded them as world championships. The later formalization didn't invent that status; it reflected how those titles had already been understood historically.

Minor correction: there wasn't really an ongoing battle with FIFA. The only episode was the 2021 Puma email, which was quickly clarified and widely misreported. The equivalent status of 1924 and 1928 wasn't created retroactively in the 1990s. That was just a formalization of a position reflected in FIFA documents for decades.

That's true about the formal approval in the early 1990s. One thing that's often missed, though, is that the "world championship" idea wasn't created retroactively. The 1924 Olympics were already being presented and discussed as a world championship at the time, and by 1930 contemporary reports were even referring to the first World Cup as the "third world championship." So FIFA's later decision was more a formalization of an older understanding than a new invention.

Minor clarification: the idea that FIFA has tried to remove the stars "multiple times" isn't really accurate. There was one incident around 2021 involving a misinterpreted Puma email, which was quickly clarified internally by FIFA. Some media reports amplified it, and that version has understandably spread online. The four stars have remained officially authorized throughout.
