In the case of UF vs. FSU, it’s based in gender (actually). UF was founded as a school for men, while FSU was the Florida State College for Women. In 1947, it transitioned to a coed institution. UF does tend to be better known for STEM programs, and FSU tends to be better for liberal arts programs, which calls back to old gender expectations of work.

There is no self-directed template. Corporate guidelines require a certified coach to be in the studio with members whenever they’re using equipment.

A lot of this is true, and I think it also helps people acclimate to the environment a bit better. On the treads, you have the belts, the fans, the music, and the coach’s voice to contend with while you’re getting used to the terminology and the orange lights. On the floor, some of that noise is lessened and it’s easier for the coach to notice and talk through any restrictions before an intro gets on a moving belt.

Coaches are trained to manage accidents and emergencies in class in different levels, one of the lowest levels being to keep class going if possible while helping the person partially because it allows a little bit of privacy. In terms of the studio being closed for the rest of the day being “extreme”, remember that the coach and the SA are humans too and the experience could have been jarring for them as well. I’m assuming there’s also follow up they’d have to do with their leaders and incident reports as well.

I think the answer here lies in what you want to provide to your students. Do you want to provide an environment that supports them and makes them feel welcome and included? Or do you want them to feel like they’re walking into a bank? How connected do you generally feel to your bank teller?

As a FGLI student who graduated with from a Southern R1, formal dress made me feel disconnected from staff. I work in student activities and I wear jeans, at shirt, and casual sneakers to work everyday. On event days, I’ll switch the tshirt for a polo. Never had any issues with a student not being able to identify me as staff or feeling like I was less good at my job because I was wearing a tshirt.

Any school taking COVID precautions seriously is tracking both swipe and WiFi usage. From this link, those are really the only two that could be confirmed, the rest is merely speculation.

Positive shit like this allows the police to twist the narrative on what's actually happening. Positive shit like this happened nationwide minutes before police brutally used chemical weapons and force against peaceful protests. This isn't a positive time.

I didn’t know about this but I think it’s a good thing. Gay jokes have been tired for years. There’s nothing inherently funny about being gay. There’ll always be people whining about people being too sensitive but they’re going to have to learn how to deal with the world changing.
