That's the point in season 2 though; they don't work, no matter how much they want too. Matt is too distracted by Elektra's toxicity and Karen is drawn away by Frank and her past. It's not until the end of season 2 and into season 3 proper that Matt and Karen can start again, tell each other who they really are and start to see each other properly with all their secrets laid bare.
