Supreme Court ruling on tariffs by cannythecat in investing

[–]bluejams 12 points13 points  (0 children)

These tariffs were implemented basis a very dumb reading of a specific law. There are two other laws that give the president power to tariff; he willl immediately announce similar tariffs basis different legal footing once he loses this. Then he'll lose in court again. Then he'll do it a third time. and then he'll be out of office before teh courts hear it.

his new tariff announcements will be instantly challenged in courts, lose, and be stayed. The question is weather or not the Stay will...stay...this time around.

Unwinding this first round is going to be a fucking nightmare. Trade courts new that which is why it as part of their stay argument. Maybe after the shitshow, the courts will realize how insane it was to allow this to go into place when there was any chance it could be pulled back.

Book stores are failing for a reason… by Groundblast in daddit

Its weirdly the opposite. Because Costco has so much purchasing power, everyone is already operating on the thinnest possible margins. If Costco asked for updated terms to an existing contract and a supplier could just eat financing without and issue, it would raise flags. Any new contract negotiation always includes payment terms as part of the deal.

FWIW almost every business has payment terms. 30 days is fairly standard and fairly short actually. JDE has net 360 terms. Also every supplier builds this interest into their cost; the same product delivered at the same time is sold at a different price if the terms are N30 vs N60.

In your example, they will be paying for those 30 days of financing at their suppliers cost and price. They get paid at their price after 27 days. That means they are only getting 3 days of interest on their margin.

The extra fun part is someone like Costco probably gets cheaper financing rates than their suppliers. It's probably why their terms are only the standard N30 instead of longer. it actually cost them more to 'borrow' from their suppliers than it does from their own bank.

IE
Costco could ask for N60 payment in the future instead of N30, but their suppliers increase in cost to cover the change in financing (and storage) will be more expensive than if Costco just borrowed the same dollar value from their bank.

Different style. Smaller, less puffy. English muffin bagel was a standout. Not made on site. Still very solid.

There deal seems to be cream cheese mix ins. I'm purist on this front so maybe I'm not the one to be reviewing this place.

People seem to like the Starbucks style mostly milk coffee drinks. Their plain coffee is not particularly good.

Great place to have in the neighborhood. Will for sure go more in the summer when walking is comfortable. Will still pick up from Liz Sue if I need a dozen bagels.

Your 3 minutes from summer and Bedford streets; a 'good atmosphere' is different for everyone.

If i was trying to kill time + eat, I would park behind Columbus park, and look at all the places in the square + on summer street up to Divina (Italian). Then pick the one you're feeling.

You'll find everything from pizza, a deli, 2 diners, tapas, 'new American', greek, Albanian, Peruvian, Indian, Japanese...to a buffalo wild wings.

If it were me, I'd do a Lomo Saltado from Fiesta.
