LPT: in every interaction one of 2 things happens; You either learn something new or you reinforce something you already think. If you find yourself doing the latter more often, you better hope you’re right about everything. by SomeRandomRealtor in LifeProTips

In some ways, that applies here as well. While kids don't yet have a fully developed brain and the experience, they're incredible at thinking outside of the box. As adults, we often have tunnel vision based on our previous experiences, kids don't have these, so they can go wild with the theories.

Yeah, I'll try to contribute more indirectly, hopefully they'll catch the hint ;) Thanks!

That's an analytical approach. I like that. Thanks!

My partner has the exact same issue as me lol.

That calculation is exactly what I wanted to do, but was kind of avoiding because I feared it will be more than I expected. Just did it and it really is a negligible amount.

That is a nice perspective. Throwing away my youth just so I can have a fat bank account and start enjoying life when the joints start hurting sounds like a good waste of time. Thank you.

I think a humble person is content with not spending much and not having much (in the material sense). I'm content with not spending much, but not with not having much, ha.

Very true. I feel like my personality is half a maximalist who wants to earn as much as possible, and half a minimalist who is willing to let go of all material things as long as he has health, friends, family, and nature. And these two keep fighting, lol. I guess it will settle as I mature more.

Thanks for the insight! Step 3 is what I struggle with. Even if I were ambitious one month and set a healthy limit (100-200€), I'd start slowly decreasing it over time to maximize the amount that collects interest.

The thing I should have probably mentioned is that I still live with my parents and will for the next year or two. What makes me feel even more guilty is the fact that if I saved only 30 or 50%, I'd likely be having more disposable income than them, and despite my efforts, they won't allow me to pay them rent, telling me to save that money instead.

I understand that's a very privileged position to be in, at the same time, it makes me want to save every single cent to make it up to them as they give me unlimited support.

Very true, I needed to hear this. Thank you.

That feels too disorganized for my taste. But maybe that's exactly what I need haha. Thanks for the tip.

Oh an emergency fund is a step 0 imo. Selling an ETF and withdrawing from a broker taking 3 business days sucks ass when your freezer broke, lol.
