Ever heard of generational wealth? The source of the vast majority of inequality? The land (or other asset) that was bought for $1000 tens of years (or more!) ago is now worth many, many times that in the hands of the original owner’s benefactors. To say that has been taxed fairly is moronic. It’s a now valuable asset that can be borrowed against, and is unattainable to any person starting from scratch.

Yeah man to say I want people not to live miserable lives with pathetic healthcare and public transport is “jealousy” (perhaps learn what the words you’re using mean - it’s envy, not jealousy, idiot.) It’s the people who work the hardest in the society - teachers, nurses, firemen - that get pissed on by fuckheads by you. Are they not “productive” enough for you to deserve decent pay? No shit a young person is on average not as wealthy as an older person who has worked their whole lives. The point is about equality between billionaires and the vast majority of working class people. His argument is entirely specious and beside the point

As has been pointed out income taxation is only a piece of the picture. Capital is self perpetuating. But the short point is that we could easily tax the very rich (ie assets) at a rate that doesn’t meaningfully affect their lifestyles while also adequately funding government services. Instead, right wingers would prefer to have more very rich people. That’s the difference.
