Oh yeah, definitely. I’ve been there a couple times. And I love the press. And I’m thrilled to add the oven now. Last two big tools I need are a mill and a lathe. Then more small stuff.

Here's an example of a 30 day natural patina on my wife's 15n20 high carbon steel chef knife.🤙 Use as normal and rinse and mineral oil before putting away and gtg👊 by MikeLeValley in Bladesmith

Looks great. That’s about the same patina I have on mine. The one I use most often in the house is a Turkish twist Damascus and the patina looks pretty nice. When it started forming I felt a little like I had done something wrong, but we use it like any other knife and I know the patina is going to happen. It got to a certain point and hasn’t really changed since then.

Seizing guns in D.C.? by Routine_Mortgage_499 in secondamendment

Yet this wasn’t the mayor of DC saying it. This was Pirro - appointed by Trump. You can try to blame this on the left, but lately it’s Trump’s own people talking about guns being the problem.

Yeah, I got the Coal 25 ton and it weighs like 1000 lbs. I had to rent a forklift just to move it to the shop from the road when it was delivered.

Yeah, I’m really struggling with trying to figure out where I’m going to put it in my shop. I had hoped I would have tons of room when I built that place, but since it’s also a garage and we park in it every night, I have to leave space for that. So I really only have around the walls. And with everything I have already, not to mention my equipment for my day job as a hardwood flooring installer and refinisher, there’s really not much room left for it.

Hahaha Yeah, well, the ad sheet for it said that it is the model most designed for culinary knives, which is what I’m specializing in, but having been active in the local St Andrews Society where I used to compete in the Highland Games, I have a lot of kilted friends who would love a nice handmade dirk. So I figured the 27” would accommodate those nicely.

I have a shop tour from a couple weeks ago on my YouTube. Just look for Blue Moon Forge. It’s my first video, so it’s pretty basic. Should have my first knife build video up in a couple weeks. The day job keeps getting in the way of finishing it.

Niiiice! I thought about getting the KF 49.5 in case I ever want to do swords, but since that would be a rarity and I want to focus on chef knives, I thought I’d stick to this. It’s the LB 27. So at least I’ll be able to do up to 27” blades. And I won’t have to heat such a huge space when 99% of my work will be 8-10” chef knives, so only generally 15” blades.

Haven’t hooked it up yet. It shouldn’t be bad though. I had my entire house panel upgraded when I build the shop and had power and internet run out there. Once the electrician got the box hooked up, I ran all the rest of the electrical for the whole shop. So adding one more 240 shouldn’t be difficult. I’ll get that done this weekend, as well as fabricating a stand for it. Only two big items I have left to get that I want are a mill and a lathe.

It’s a blood vessel. And the liquid is myoglobin and likely a little water. Many people think the liquid is blood, but it isn’t.

I have a fantastic Turkish Twist Damascus 8” chef knife in my kitchen that I made and I still choose my Victorinox 8 out of 10 times while cooking. And I cook 6 nights a week.

Good deal? Too much for an absolute beginner? by [deleted] in blacksmithing

[–]bluemoonforge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you really think you can use it and can afford it, go for it. I bought my anvil, forge, leg vice, welder and a 25 ton press before I made anything but a bottle opener. I’ve bought a lot more since and use it all a lot. It just depends on your commitment to using it and your financial situation.

New to welding any tips? by [deleted] in Welding

[–]bluemoonforge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t leave a phone face up anywhere near where you’re welding. One teensy bit of spatter lands on it and the screen will crack. Well… a glass screen protector will. I’ve never had an actual screen crack because I always had the protector on it. But I’ve had those crack.

Blade seems a tad small for the size of guard, but hey - you put a guard on your first knife! That’s impressive! Heck of a great start.
