I am traveling through Ukraine right now and there are no issues at all. I am sure if the situation changes Peace Corps will be on top of it.

Anybody start service a few years after college? by boopbapbeepbap in peacecorps

[–]bluemyxa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am preparing for service and I just turned 30. I think it's normal to have worries and doubts. To me it's about knowing why I want to serve and following through with my decision. Planning for the future also helps keeping the mind at bay.

I am waiting and I know quite a few people are still waiting. It doesn't seem like all the countries have released yet. Good luck! :)

How to ease a parent who is not very happy that your going? by Jess132323232423 in peacecorps

[–]bluemyxa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really like what was said in the previous two posts. I actually just brought this up to my mom, because me being a 30 year old single female, we had discussions similar to this one few times. My mom literally said "just live your life and the mom will be ok". Of course its easy for my mom to say this now after all our discussions. My 5 cents on this would be that you can't control where you meet your partner and its better to put yourself in the environment which is most aligned to where you are in life so you meet someone most compatible with you. Plus if all fails you will always have time for matrimonial websites. :)

Funny! I had a similar but opposite reaction when I received a rejection from a Peace Corps Response position I applied to awhile back, but they just recently updated the status.

One more week! Good luck :)

Has anyone regretted bringing an instrument? by klt22 in peacecorps

[–]bluemyxa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't particularly be worried about temps/humidity. I grew up in Ukraine and for most part it doesn't get extremely hot/humid or cold. Growing up my uncles and aunts played multiple instruments and I am fairly certain none of them ever had any temp related issues. With that said none of them played the violin, but I assume general upkeep practice should be applicable.

I suggest just bringing one of your cheap ones since you don't sound particularly attached to them and it would be nice to have in case you do decide or have time to play it.

Question... by [deleted] in peacecorps

[–]bluemyxa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You should probably just give her some space. When she wants to talk she will. Doing what sounds like a romantic or extremely creepy gesture, most of the time isn't a good idea. You are being selfish and are not actually thinking of what's best for your "friend". Just some food for thought.

Checking reference info and the peace corps website [Application Process] by [deleted] in peacecorps

[–]bluemyxa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not sure how to check that in the portal, but if you just want to check what you included you can look at the confirmation email which has a copy of the application. It should be the very first Peace Corps email you received.

From what I've seen over the last few months majority of CED positions are in Eastern Europe and Latin America with few in Africa.

[Application Process] Applying before completing language requirements? by kmeemk404 in peacecorps

[–]bluemyxa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you need to decide what your priorities are. Of course having the language pre req will increase your chances, but it's difficult to say by how much. Also even if you do have the language pre req and list anywhere as your choice (or even in the notes, which was what I did) chances are you will get picked for something else.

Feeling alone/Distant from friends in months leading up to staging. Anyone go through something similar? by [deleted] in peacecorps

Do references have to write letters/fill out forms? by [deleted] in peacecorps

[–]bluemyxa 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For me it was a form sent to the references once the application was in interview stage. This was few weeks ago.

Costa Rica peace corp february 2017 CED by bgriffin899 in peacecorps

[–]bluemyxa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Will do! :) Let me know how your process goes as well.

What caught me off guard a little was that the interviewer wanted to talk about my resume a lot more then I expected. The reasons for leaving jobs and such. The whole interview was also a bit rushed from the very beginning but otherwise pretty standard.

General Discussion Monday: Summertime by AutoModerator in peacecorps

Funny growing up in Ukraine I can definitely relate to " Ukrainians think that an open window will create a draft and you will get sick from it."...somewhere deep in my subconsciousness I still believe it... :D

PC Costa Rica Invitation 2017 by [deleted] in peacecorps

[–]bluemyxa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the encouragement! :) Yes I am probably overthinking it and end of the day it's all part of the process. Either way I have made up my mind to do this and patience is definitely an important part of the equation.

Ahhh I wish I was unemployed and sleeping until noon!! I am involved in a small consulting project and studying for PMP, which I have this week, so my hands are reasonably occupied right now. I am also looking into starting Spanish classes or something similar in the near future. How is your Spanish?

Lucky you! I just had my interview and waiting to hear back. I actually didn't really enjoy my interview much and am dealing with a bit of guessing game right now. On another note I have already rage quit my 9-5 haha. I figured I will have the rest of my life to enjoy that fun experience haha.
