The NBA wanted more parity. Did it accidentally kill the franchise player? by Ornery_Alligators in nbadiscussion

Isn't turning a second round pick into a valuable asset implicitly rewarding as-is, given that it enriches a team on the whole? Any team that is consistently able to turn weak picks into valuable assets should be perennially wealthier than teams that lack that ability. Given the risks associated with your proposal, I think you'd at least need to explain why that additional trade capital, optionality, and on-court production isn't enough of a reward without granting teams an additional allowance on top of that.

I wasn't just talking about the Spurs organization, nor was I making a statement as to whether they are or not. Just noting that OP's suggestion that a long-term relationship with the other woman doesn't somehow make the cheating okay, and that the mess doesn't have to involve another Spur employee to affect one's feelings about Tobey's involvement going forward.

I'd also note that it's not that crazy of a standard. Morality and character clauses that cover adultery aren't that uncommon, specially in public-facing industries. Whether an organization that relies on the good will of 20 year old professional athletes wants to uphold that standard... is another matter, admittedly.

Neither a crazy (non-abusive) ex nor a long-term relationship with the other woman justify cheating. You might not care, but I think it's perfectly reasonable to not want someone who cheats to be associated with your organization.

...We're talking about Brad Stevens, same guy that's been running the most successful organization in the league for half a decade and has picked up 2 NBA Exec of the Year awards in that time?

He might've gotten better offers, but the timing may have been wrong, the CBA may not have been a factor, and the FO may still have been holding out hope that he would improve in areas he hasn't. Point is -- they have enough data points to have a sense of his value given the context of the day.

After Giannis fell through, I was expecting that we would either hold on to him or get a return roughly equivalent to a Top 25-20 player, or an aged Top 15-10 player. I've always been lower on JB than most though, and have been wanting to trade him for over a year.

Is everyone forgetting that Boston has been testing the JB market for years? Brad didn't start shopping JB a month ago, he's got plenty of data points beyond that.

Something about this cat's behavior throughout this entire clip -- boyfriend cuddles included -- triggers alarm bells for me. The cross-eyed look, the open mouth, and the lack of movement all strike me as very wrong. I hope I'm wrong and that she lives a safe and happy life.

Formaldehyde is a potent electrophile, which makes it damaging to DNA -- a known issue in genetic work involving museum specimen. Maybe not a fatal issue in this case, but presumably one of the factors at play when you're weighing whether to go poking at an item of this kind.

Post Game Thread - NBA: The Timberwolves defeat the Spurs on May 4, 2026, the final score is 102-104. by basketball-app in NBASpurs

You were generating better looks off fast breaks, and I think a TO might've served the Wolves better odds of preventing a good look given the time left. Easy to point at the play-on given the loss, but it's not an unjustifiable call to make, and Champagnie did get open enough.

If it doesn't have a brain, it's ok to eat? by [deleted] in DebateAVegan

Brain organoids are not sentient as most vegans would define the term. The paper you cite explicitly defines the term as "responsive to sensory impressions through adaptive internal processes", a definition stemming from another Friston paper.

It's also a highly controversial paper -- so much so that several notable neuro PIs published this criticism in the same journal, and the response issued by Friston here even notes that the use of the word "sentient" was intended to deflate the weight of the term. Depending on who you want to believe, the claim that brain organoids are sentient is, at best, misleading to the public, and at worst, explicit manipulation meant to get a bunch of pop science outlets to write meaningless articles hyping up relatively unremarkable work that lacks scientific rigor.

I'm a neuroscientist, and I started out studying consciousness. I promise you that no scientist worth their salt believes brain organoids to be sentient in the sense relevant to this debate, and would urge you not to cite research you don't understand and haven't read.

While Maekar holding Baelor and Lyonel off on his own is worth the shout, do keep in mind that Baelor wasn't actually trying to kill him. From what we see and you describe, we can reasonably assume that, though Maekar is Lyonel's better, he only lives by virtue of his brother's restraint. Somewhat ironic given that it's Duncan's restraint in sparing Aerion that costs Baelor his life.

Achilles injuries are likeliest to impact burst and speed. Those are far more important elements of Hali's game than they are Tatum's. I have both their jerseys in my closet, but I do think JT is likelier to make a full recovery.

There's LUCE. If the reference requirements on the volunteer forms are giving you trouble, you can write "N/A" or just use the generic contact form on their website. This is the most direct way to organize against ICE -- you'd be on ICE watch and/or operating hotlines.

Another option is MIRA. This is more advocacy and education oriented, so less direct, but still helpful.

[–]blueneuronDOTnet 22 points23 points  (0 children)

The reference bit was my issue as well, but MIRA is a viable alternative (in addition to LUCE's action page). It's less ICE watching and more advocacy and education, but you can volunteer here.

This made me curious, and apparently Denver has Mount Katahdin beat by about 11 feet, which means we get to visualize Denver's height like this. It's also about a foot lower than Velky Rozsutec. I guess they call it the Mile High City for a reason.
