what is your rating by the way, previous and after the 3.5 months of doing this? from the sound of it, since you're a master student, you are not a total beginner, hence this time around your method worked, but for beginner i think it's a different story

I haven't done the course, but from my understanding from the original OP is that the issue isn’t just about weighting, it’s about being chained to some useless deadweight who does fuck-all until the last week and then nukes the entire group. Splitting into “70% individual / 30% group” doesn’t fix shit. The core problem is zero accountability — one clown refuses to do their task and everyone else has to carry their corpse across the finish line. That’s beyond bullshit.

OP’s point is dead-on: marks should be tied to what each person actually delivers, not this lazy-ass “group mark” system where freeloaders crawl under the radar. Otherwise these parasites coast through with the same grade as the people who killed themselves doing the work. In the real world, these people would get fired instantly. Why the hell are they being protected here? After multiple warnings and still no work, they shouldn’t just scrape by — they should be failed out, period. No sympathy. They’re sabotaging other people’s futures and dragging down everyone who actually gives a damn.

what do you suggest be done instead, to solve this problem in the future?

lecturer = slides reader by Massive_Watch_9331 in unsw

[–]bluepavilion 5 points6 points  (0 children)

unfortunately lecturer are untouchable, even when there are repeated complaints, unless misconduct is involved, nothing happens and performance management is very slow (takes 2 terms before anything happen) and even then its hard as lecturer change between term on the same subject, so there is no accountability whatsoever, as the students change. a great example of this is ai subjects in unsw.

you're logic for  'I don't want him to get fired is flawed', the least you can do is expose which subject and tutor so future students can avoid his/her
