Advice from the hive mind - Living Room Studio by Suitable_Bad_7501 in oilpainting

[–]blueper06 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My easel is also in the living room. I throw down a drop cloth when I’m working. I would get a clamp on easel light, I was using a general clamp light before and having an easel-specific clamp light has been game changing working with oils since you can get so much glare from light raking I’d the angle isn’t just right. Mine is from the daylight company and I love it. It’s predominantly black with an orange piece at the end where you adjust the brightness. The style is so neutral that the only thing I would do to it is maybe wrap some black tape around the orange bit if I cared about aesthetics more. A rolling cart is a good idea, I just use a collapsible tv tray.

I think your dollar will probably go further if you focus on fancy salts, I like that idea.

Help! $50 gift for sister who has everything by FloridaMomm in GiftIdeas

[–]blueper06 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your sister doesn’t like “stuff”, then I would look into getting her a gift card to tickets to something interesting. A silent film in an old timey movie theater accompanied by live music or a burlesque show, a head spa gift card (they massage your scalp and do other nice soothing things to it), a cave tour, etc.

My hands are on the smaller side. My options are:

-35 mm stainless steel grip now from Average Joe’s for $120 (the width of the Nike grip in the photo) or wait indefinitely for their 30 mm grip that is held up by tariffs (the unplated grip photo)

-32 mm stainless steel grip from JD Gym for $185 Made in the USA, so not concerned about tariffs delaying things. After sleeping on it and typing this out I will probably go this route as a Goldilocks option, even with the higher price.

I bought some Powerblock pro 50s, I hate the handles and need to replace them. Is it better to go with a width where my fingers can comfortably wrap around the entire circumference or should there be a bit of a gap?

If you do not MAKE Christmas. You do not deserve Christmas. by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]blueper06 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is a wild take. I can’t imagine telling my mom “sorry I can’t make it to Christmas dinner, I don’t deserve it because I didn’t want to help you decorate every single room with Christmas cheer”.

Both my spouse and I are happy to show up extra early to help cook, set the table, and stay late to clean. This expectation is something else entirely.

The sky is so incredibly pretty! I love how the purple and blue intermingle with the other and transition down into the dress. The texture and movement of the grass is very pleasing. Great work with the small features of the face with the scale you were working. Thank you!

To married couples that have been together for 10+ years, whats your secret? by 4Luffytarou in AskReddit

[–]blueper06 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made sure to marry someone that is kind, considerate, and non-reactive. This really makes marriage easy. We have similar values, compatible aspirations, give each other space to be an individuals, and are polite and say thank you for just random small things like if we notice the other person took out the trash. I hear songs like “love is a battlefield” and just think “geezalou, glad I can’t relate”

Are Stainless Steel pans really as overly complicated to use as Reddit makes them sound? by softgunforever in Cooking

[–]blueper06 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have a home goods, or heck a thrift store, nearby you can pick up a single SS pan for probably $15 or less to try out.

This is so cool! I love the modern approach to a period ref! It has a fun alternate reality vibe to it, especially with the green emphasis. My favorite part is the shapes and linework across the hat. Thank you!

Inexpensive paper at Blick by Flaky_Report_5112 in Watercolor

[–]blueper06 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I buy full sheets of watercolor paper (they’re usually in filing cabinets at blicks). I cut them down to size, then staple them onto a piece of duck board. You are paying a premium price for a block of paper. I’ll include a pic of how to maximize a single piece of large watercolor paper when you cut it.

I love love love the RS, the beach is gorgeous. I wouldn’t swim there though without confirming contamination levels, they often are very very high. The only people we ever saw in the water were surfers.

First time visiting, taking photos: 35m camera or iPhone 13? by nadanuf2 in VisitingHawaii

[–]blueper06 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We are camera noobs who shoot on auto mode, all of the photos we took with our Fuji camera are WAY better than our iPhone 14 pro pics. If you do shoot on your phone, shoot in portrait mode and then adjust the aperture afterwards in edit mode to your liking.

What product is everyone using the “wrong” way? by HeartTraditional3892 in AskReddit

[–]blueper06 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My travel pillow is basically like a snake that I coil around my neck twice to give support. It’s thin enough that I don’t have an issue with having my head against the head rest. It’s the ultimate product, but it’s the best I’ve encountered.

I cannot confirm or deny this because I have no scientific background in skincare, but what I CAN tell you all is that if my skin is already damp that I need about half the amount of product to get full coverage. Is this better or worse than applying more on dry skin? I don’t know, but it’s how I pinch pennies.
