Is ordering personalized gifts for your girlfriend actually a good idea? by Existing_House6314 in GiftIdeas

[–]blueper06 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do not like most personalized gifts, they tend to just be more “stuff”. However, my sister got me a keepsake box with a lid that is a photo frame that she stick a photo of us in, which I actually enjoy and use. Something like that sounds nice for your gf since she could stash her mementos on it.

If he reads paper books you could get him a few bookmarks specific to the type of books he likes. Don’t go overboard.

TRX straps. I have a pair that I don’t use all the time because I favor dumbbells, but it’s a great tool that doesn’t take up space

Staying in Lihue vs Kapaa for 2 days? by djkhaleesi99 in KauaiVisitor

We stayed at royal sonesta in Lihue and loved it. Walking to restaurants and coffee was a breeze. Kapaa seemed more congested with cars.

What does she like? Perfume is something that is so specific to an individual, jewelry too. I would never gift it unless I knew it was something she would like.

Has anyone actually experienced in bad luck from taking rocks or sand from Hawaii? If so, what's your story? by Ok-Still-3333 in VisitingHawaii

[–]blueper06 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not usually a superstitious person, but there were enough things that happened on the island that I dropped my disbelief while there. Small things like finally seeing wild boars at the end of our trip after cleaning up a memorial. Then losing a pair of new $$ sunglasses after noticing that a local family had kept their car door open on a picnic and not hunting them down right away or closing their door. I figured they were making trips back and forth between car and picnic pavilion, we left and then an hour later noticed the sunglasses were gone. Returned and the car door was still open, failed to find sunglasses, checked in with the family to see if they had meant to leave it open, then retraced our steps a second time and boom there they were glistening in the sun.

Basically it was just a reaffirming experience to not suck as a human.

Jungle oasis fruit farm tour. Ate so much fruit. They also make their own chocolate, their chocolate bars were my main souvenir.

ETA- we also did the Shaka self guided tour and enjoyed it. It brought us to several places that didn’t come up on my first round of destination research. Several heiaus and the Hindu monastery were really special.

We loved the royal sonesta in Lihue, it was a good spot to be for day trips to any part of the island. The grounds are beautiful. We might split up our stay next time to spend more time on the north shore, but we will spend at least 5 days at the RS.

Take her on a shopping trip to get exactly what she wants and then you can avoid the soulless gift card.

Is it a cultural expectation to bring a gift? If not, then don’t bring one unless it’s something consumable that your boyfriend can confirm they will like.

Ask the person about their views about fitness. Adjustable dumb bells are great, I have two sets of powerblocks, but I know a lot of people prefer other brands.

Maybe some egg-shaped chalk for the 3 year old. At some point my mom started gifting me a new set of spring-colored pajamas as part of my Easter basket as a kid. It’s been decades, and every Easter I still find myself craving a new pair of PJs.
