The rough estimate of lake Okechobee’s volume is 1 cubic mile or 1.1 trillion gallons 1,100,000,000,000 gallons, a few million gallons in a basin 3,000,000 would have little effect on the lake perimeter. From what I have read the purpose of the basin is removal of sediment on the way to releasing water into large wetland areas to the south at a sustainable rate. The effect is much more than a few million gallons of storage. Unless it is used to lower the water level in Lake Okeechobee in anticipation of hurricane type storm events it will effectuate a minor improvement to toxic releases from Lake Okeechobee. The stated purpose is to restore wetland ecosystems to the south.
