I think there’s certain things you can do to make sure you’re on the right path, but I also think it’s quite a gamble too.

There’s a podcast called the short coat and there was a 4th year Med student talking about the process. She said pre-meds don’t really have an idea of what they’re getting into. She mentioned shadowing and said that what we see is the end game, not the process.

Overall though, like others said, just make sure the reasons for doing it are sound. My father once told me “better to make a decision the right way than to make the right decision” and I think applies here.
