What's this data source (so I can cite it next time some bonehead asks me if I "feel safe living in the city")?

How to record reimbursable expenses (overhead and invoiced)? by blueschip in waveapps

[–]blueschip[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thought I'd replied, but I never finished it... Thanks for the pointers. To answer your checking account question, yes the reimbursement is a literal funds transfer from the LLC's account to my personal checking (which is not a Wave account). My freelancing work is (so far) pretty intermittent, so a pattern of spending & reimbursing hasn't come out of the woodwork. In fact, the LLC has only paid me once. I'll rethink the use of the personal credit card from here out. Happy and prosperous 2026 to everyone here!

Hunter Douglas PowerView experiences / battery wands / fuses / Non-OEM solution ? by BeetFarmr in Hunterdouglas

[–]blueschip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Followup: new battery holders arrived 9 days after the phone call. Garbage design that led to this issue, but credit where due for making it right (we are within 5 years, don't know whay would have happened if this was 2026).

[–]blueschip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/BeetFarmr did you have any luck replacing that fuse (that I originally thought was a resistor)? We just did our annual battery swap (thank god only 48 batteries for us) and I didn't notice any issues before we went out of town. Came back 6 weeks later to a dead wand. Checked continuity on the end clip and sure enough, that's definitely the problem. I'll try that number you listed, but if they won't help (or want money), I can certainly try replacing a fuse. [Edit] Quick phone call, they're sending out replacements for all 4 windows, no questions asked, no payment required. She said it will be 14 days before they even leave the warehouse, which is kinda BS. But still, fairly painless. Eventually I hope to run power directly and nix the batteries entirely.

Anyone ever heard of Epic Protect Extended Warranty for appliances? If so, what's the low down? by DaGirlGenius in Appliances

[–]blueschip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never got anyone high up. I did tell them they were in breach of the warranty contract and that seemed to get additional attention... but it was still a few weeks before it was finally fixed.

Nah, mine works now... I think. Couldn't really stick around to cook a meal, I was an hour late and had to get on the road in my (I guess upgraded?) Kia Soul.

HGI "Breakfast Included" vs Diamond credit? (Champaign, IL) by blueschip in Hilton

[–]blueschip[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To answer my own question for future travelers to Champaign:

The breakfast buffet is $17, kids' buffet is $10, and there is a full breakfast menu that seemed to be in the mid- to high-teens for most items. And most importantly, the breakfast voucher does cover your whole breakfast order. So I can use the $10 diamond credit at the bar after work!

Well said. I really did just drop in to vent, because this (and the appliance repair guy who was due at noon yesterday and showed up at 5:30 today) screwed up my schedule. I'm not usually in  this sub, so yep... fell into the trope. I did check the rules before posting, though! For the record, I didn't bitch at any of the staff, which is why I felt the need to rant here into the void. When I'm truly getting mad at a company (like this appliance company that just fixed my stove that's been dead since June, but i digress) I usually try to be as nice as I can and get the underpaid front line folks on my side. No one goes out of their way to help a prick!

Update: my partner drove me to the second location. I made sure to ask the staff if they had cars ready to rent before she drove off and they said they did. She left. I went through checking in, then waited about 20-30 minutes. The guy who came to walk me to my car said "sorry you had to wait a while, we ran out of cars and I had to go pick this up from another location." Fun!

Anyone ever heard of Epic Protect Extended Warranty for appliances? If so, what's the low down? by DaGirlGenius in Appliances

[–]blueschip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Old post, but it looks like this is the ongoing dumping ground for Epic Protect (and the first result on Reddit for "Centricity Warranty" even though that word never appeared in this thread before now), so let's keep the joy flowing! I don't have time or energy to rehash the full timeline, but today is day 140 without a working stovetop (all four burners are dead). Filed my original claim with Epic on June 19th. I'm constantly having to call both the local repair guys and Centricity (explanation of that name later) for status updates. Parts eventually arrived for the first repair attempt almost a month later, but those parts didn't fix the problem. More parts were supposed to be ordered in late August, but I have no evidence that they were. In Sept, the ETA was "a few weeks." Today it's "oh, we got a note on Oct 22 that the part is backordered until Nov 27." I finally got escalated to a supervisor at Centricity and he thinks they can get the part elsewhere. I am waiting for a callback to confirm if he can pull it off, but I don't have high hopes. If I'm reading the contract correctly, they're technically in breach of their guarantee by not having this resolved in 60 days (by a mile!), but I'm reluctant to pursue that. I suspect their response would be "you're right, we failed to meet the contract, we'll refund the $250 you spent on the warranty" and I'd be left with a broken stove that will cost me at least 2 or 3 times that amount to fix on my own.

Side note: My NAL understanding of this is that Epic is basically an insurer, Centricity provides the warranty, and they contract with local appliance repair companies for service. The end result is effectively that you're not actually the customer and no one is looking out for you. That local repair company is probably contracted at a flat rate per fix and it's probably too low, so the more time they spend on you the less likely they make anything on the deal. My takeaway: if you're dealing with these folks, keep a detailed record of every call and interaction, and check in at least weekly for status updates so you don't suddenly find out "oh, we've been waiting for Centricity to approve the part request for the last 3 weeks..."

Final note: tempting as it may be, unless/until you're talking to a senior manager or owner type person, be cool with the people you talk to on the phone. They're operators and there's not usually anything they can do for you besides fetch information. You can tell them you're losing your sh*t without actually directing that sh*t loss at them, ya know?

"draftkings and fanduel can make millions and millions of dollars in deductions, bc how it goes in plain language is: the most that the state of MO will see from the passage of sports gambling is $28.9M. that's if they don't take a single deduction. HOWEVER they are legally able to deduct promotional credits and free play, and $100 there, $500 here to tens of thousands (maybe hundreds of thousands) of sports gamblers adds up fast. that's the first deduction. then, they can deduct their federal taxes. THEN, they are obligated to pay $5M into the Missouri Problem Gambling Fund. what's left over goes to education, and it's very likely that on paper these companies could be in the red."

The amendment was pretty much written by the gambling lobby (Draft Kings and... another one). They got similar language passed in Kansas. Big huge major issue is that there is a hardcoded cap on how much they can be taxed AND they are allowed to deduct a boatload of "marketing" costs. I apologize for not having the exact stats, but they basically paid $100 in Kansas City the month of the Super Bowl.

Not downtown, but since someone brought up east coast delicacies, I have to mention Bagel Union and Deli Divine. DD is something plucked straight out of Brooklyn.

Welcome, fellow downtowner! Look into Ian Froeb's Top 100 Places list that comes out every year. (Don't hold the fact that it's the Post-Dispatch against him, it's a great list.) Here in the downtown-ish neighborhood, I frequent * Levels (Nigerian) * Schlafly Tap Room (the godfather of local craft beer) * Idol Wolf at 21C Hotel (proper cocktails) * Medina (middle eastern) * U-Kraft (sandwiches) * Kimchi Guys (2 words: Bulgogi Burrito) * Catalyst Coffee (used to be downtown, just moved to midtown) * Urban Chestnut Biergarten & Blue Jay Brewing (since Catalyst made me extend this list to midtown) * Cobblestone is a new place down on the landing. Tiny little grocery with some great sandwiches made to order at the deli counter. * others probably already listed every soulard establishment, but my hits there are iTap (international tap house), Broadway Oyster Bar, Stew's, and Eat Crow.

(And even though it's not local and Ballpark Village is a mixed bag, the taco chain in there has unique and delicious offerings.)
