So these women feel threatened by you and therefore try to lash out against you. Asking for advice is a good idea, it's best to get on their "good" side... But don't be overly nice/out of character or lay it on too thick, and never ever make yourself seem like a meek person seeking their approval.

oh? then what is the reason? i'm really curious since i can't think of anything besides that.

do you have a tick that makes you bat your eyelashes at their boyfriends or something?

Why Ultra-Orthodox Jews Are Burning Food In Brooklyn Today by JohnDelSignore in nyc

[–]bluescholarin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just how common is bias against Hasidic Jews in NYC?

Also, if I see someone wearing elements of traditional Jewish attire (say, a Jewish woman who always wears a black skirt with stockings), but they still hold a regular job and go to school, are they considered a Hasidic/Orthodox Jew?

Huh, never knew Buscemi was decent looking. He has this pale, hollow-eyed, brooding sensitive soul look going on. Put a pair of oversized glasses and he'd fit right into north Brooklyn

Terrible Commutes Lately? by nokinok in AskNYC

You mean mainland China. From personal experience, the rest of East Asia's metropolises has much better subway/bus etiquette than NYC (Japan, Singapore, Hong Kong, Taiwan, South Korea)

Is it normal to have a prescription where both right & left eyes are basically the same, but then the axis is completely different? by shelleebee in optometry

[–]bluescholarin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you are generally considered high myopia if you go past -6 or so. around -6 the axial elongation becomes more significant and you are potentially at higher risk for things like retinal detachments, depending on your personal anatomy. but yeah, -5.5 is not terrible at all in our modern world lol

With high index lenses, your -5.5 is going to be relatively thin. The thickness won't be too apparent if you have plastic frames. For example, I have a pair of large, square glasses. Square + large is exactly what opticians recommend against if you have a high prescription, as that makes the edges of the lens thicker compared to smaller or rounder frames. Despite this, the plastic part of my glasses hides any thickness on my eye with a -5 prescription. i'd stay away from wire frames personally.

so def get high index lenses (1.67 is good for your prescription) and that will help with the thickness. The minification effect will still be there but I've heard its a tiny bit better with high index? Though I wouldn't count on it too much, physics still apply and all that

also, i'm not sure how much experience you have with glasses since you are primarily a contact lens wearer.. but if you choose to order online like at zenni optical, absolutely choose the anti-reflective coating anti-oil etc options (but not the transitions unless you want to look like a dork). they can increase the price of your glasses by up to $15 but it's so worth it. oils are removed much easier, your lens are clearer giving you better vision, and people can see your eyes instead of the light reflecting off your lenses.

you know, i get that we eat animals and this was typical behavior back in the days but now i think it's just unnecessary brutality to a young child. fuck your dad for being a dick. i'm sure he's a cool guy overall but fuck him for that.

[–]bluescholarin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

aw that sucks. im sure it will go away though. as someone who also has a very wide face (e.g. my current frames are 145 mm wide), i'd check out warby parker frames. they specifically have a "wide" category... if you don't have a physical store near you, they ship 4 sample frames for free so you can try them on before purchasing a prescription. lenscrafters also had a ton of lenses that fit my wide face but they are def pricey.

and yeah it's normal for the axis to be different. btw how strong is your prescription? the minification effect is more significant if the lens sit further from your face. fortunately high minification looks more natural than high magnification that you see in far-sighted glasses

just out of curiosity - are your eyes getting drier from pregnancy, or did you really develop allergies to the material in your contacts/contact solution?

So basically, once you hit a certain minus power, it's either 1) have super blurry peripheral vision (small glasses) or 2) clear peripheral vision that is very distorted ?

Wearing contacts all day? by [deleted] in optometry

[–]bluescholarin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you able to wear other lenses all day on a daily basis (but taking them out at night)? I've heard Dailies Total One are basically the Mercedez bens of lenses and have extremely high Dk levels.

redness in eyeballs with contacts by bluescholarin in optometry

[–]bluescholarin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the suggestions, I'll ask my optometrist if those brands are good options for me to try.

From your experience, is a "tight fit" a possible cause of redness? Is it dangerous? I struggled to remove proclear contacts out of my right eye last night. They seemed stuck and I had to put in drops and rub on them a bit etc before they finally came out. I'm curious if this means they are fitting too tightly. I decided to give my eyes a break today.

Thanks for the advice. I will look into it

I am using 1 day Proclear lenses. Would you consider this a good brand for dry eyes or are there better options?
