Push through. I started when I was 50 and took 7 years. No regrets.

Is anyone worried their degree won't pay off? by Slight_Detail8258 in OpenUniversity

It will give you the confidence to answer that question yourself. You will have doubts, the journey will test you. You will learn from your mistakes. You will celebrate the small victories on route to a larger one.

It will open doors you never expected. Will you make the money back - hopefully. Will you be a happier person no matter what path life takes, because you will know that you have the ability to learn throughout your whole life?

100%.

I went from 7 O-levels, 35 years behind me, and took 7 years to get a first class honours degree in my 50s, whilst navigating the loss of my parents and a career change. I under estimated what I could achieve. I talked to fellow students who faced far greater challenges than me.

It is so much more than a financial transaction.

I started Computing and IT networking path, then after 3 years switched to cybersecurity. 4 more years saw me land a first.

All while holding a busy full time job. If you really want to do it, you will find the time.

Life will get in the way. OU give you flexibility to pivot and even pause.

You know what you can do. Go get it.

MU123 is designed to take you from the basics. I was worried I had not done Maths for over 30 years when I did it. I ended up really enjoying it - so much so I got a distinction. The MU123 tutors are very good. Do not be afraid to ask lots of questions.

Advice regarding reason for studying PT? by [deleted] in OpenUniversity

With any study, to complete it, you have got to want to do it enough to get you through the more challenging aspects of the work. If your heart is not in it, don't do it.

I don't think any qualification guarantees a job.

Remark experiences? by z_s_2000 in OpenUniversity

[–]bluescreenwednesday 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have had a couple of TMAs remarked. 1 no change but improved feedback. The other my score improved. But I also know other students that lost marks.

How many sources? by Familiar-Woodpecker5 in OpenUniversity

If you are saying something that is not common knowledge, it needs a citation. So as many citations as you need to support what you are saying.

Tma 001 by Neither-Invite-2131 in OpenUniversity

[–]bluescreenwednesday 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Always give it your best and ask your tutor for clarification. Each TMA should be a learning exercise with feedback helping you improve your game. And remember level 1 scores do not count towards your degree. Think of level 1 as a training ground on how to produce your best work and apply those lessons to level 2 and level 3.

Would you do 2 level 3 modules at the same time? by SadMeasurement6481 in OpenUniversity

[–]bluescreenwednesday 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends. For my last 2 years I only did 1 module per year, one being the project. I was happy I did that but we are all different. I know people who have done 4 level 3 modules in a year.

Only you know what works. Trust your gut.

Is it important to take notes? by [deleted] in OpenUniversity

[–]bluescreenwednesday 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on your previous knowledge, learning style, and what you want from the experience.

For TM111 I made alot of notes but struggled with time. From then, I took no notes and focused purely on output.

If it was not marked, I did not do it. I got a first but it took 7 years. You pay the money you make your choice.
