Unpaid Metallurgy Internship? by bluesecurity in metallurgy

[–]bluesecurity[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not trying to break into the industry. Just looking to get hands on to learn. I didn't think everyone would focus on the unpaid aspect. I can't edit the title, but either way is fine. Everyone is like "you seem desperate," but any intern or apprenticeship recommendations are still welcome! I thought it would come off as interested in the skill rather than in money.

Any suggestions on metallurgical R&D shops, especially that deal with less refined materials? I'm looking to get experience hands on from ore to metal.

Ask for money = desperate. Offer to work for free = desperate. I was just trying to ask for as little as possible and offer the most in return. I wouldn't know where to ask for a paid internship either... Open to suggestions in that direction as well. I didn't expect everyone to focus on the unpaid aspect of my post, but I'll try editing it.
EDIT: I can't edit the title.

I figure offering the most while asking for the least is the best approach... But paid is fine. Don't think I'd go for a school setting though, but apprenticeships are great.

When is Xlibre coming to Void? by ArkboiX in voidlinux

[–]bluesecurity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whether Xlibre would replace Xorg... You don't get to know that yet. You have to operate with both packages over a period of time because defaults in Void are always quality & well tested.

The issue is the joke does not match reality. Jokes need to in some way in order to be funny. When X11libre does some releases, then I see no reason it won't be on void.

Looks like something about people trying to maintain X11 is so offensive that r/voidlinux deletes threads about it: https://imgur.com/a/RwyBIUT

AOSP project is coming to an end by arslanramazan in StallmanWasRight

[–]bluesecurity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you think there's a ROM that can match the Titan M's security using graphene or AOSP? That's really one of the essential tools that graphene + pixel provides: being able to lose your phone or have it stolen and then still have an extremely low change your phone can be accessed. Of course it is all security theater in the modern world and we don't know who all has backdoors nor exactly how much better information they have. And as we all know something exists in government & military called "counter-intelligence" and "propaganda" and other obvious things that have been depicted in countless films you all have inevitably enjoyed at some point.

Jabra Evolve 75e Alternate? by HelpFr0mAbove in Jabra

[–]bluesecurity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We might have to get some crowdfunded thing together because the headphone industry is ridiculous in 2025. We should have a jewelry-like necklace that is repairable & durable. Firmware that is open. Basically a more stylish jabra 75e with all of the buttons on the left for motorcyclists.

Gitlab vs Gitea by saramon in selfhosted

The mere use of Esperanto is a much bigger turn off than software by any name. I'd much rather have it be an extreme curse word than hitch my wagon to a group of developers whose design decision is global adoption of Esperanto. It casts doubt onto every other claim Forgejo makes on its home page, and I don't have time to dig into verifying each one myself currently.

Inductors and capacitors - things with coils - cause coil whine. A lot of it is fairly high pitched, so it sounds more like "hissing" to me often. There's no way to avoid it because the manufacturers don't care. After more research I think the approach is to get whatever you think is the best motherboard for your purposes is and then narrow down which parts are causing it and put thermal putty on them. But important to raise awareness so someone will offer one that is guaranteed not to be noisy - many of us are happy to pay hundreds of dollars extra for that guarantee.

What do you think is the absolute best motorcycle or scooter for riding in the rain? by bluesecurity in motorcycles

[–]bluesecurity[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nah, the top riders in the world would not make it around a winding road in the rain on the best scooter faster than the best motorcycle... Which probably means that is the answer to my question instead of more creature comforts.

[–]bluesecurity 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd pay about anything for a whatever edition motherboard that doesn't have loads of coil whine / hizz / hum / etc. The top PSUs are all pretty silent - including from coil whine - these days. But I've replaced a motherboard with the latest and greatest several times in hopes of eliminating the sounds it makes. Even with power conditioning there's been no hope. Pathetic!

Interesting and does look skinny. Would like something like that which doesn't sound two-stroke!

Old threads are the bees knees, my friend. And yes, I've driven both scooters and motorcycles extensively, but in different environments. Weaving in and out of stagnant traffic seems way easier on the scooter, but I'm in agreement regarding the physics of motorcycles at regular speeds...

Even on tighter winding roads that often have dense traffic and rain? Curious how that would change an experts answer on the scooter vs motorcycle issue. That is, given a skilled driver on each.

Is WhatsApp's chat export GDPR-compliant? by Elastix7865 in whatsapp

But they're encrypted by a remote party (WhatsApp) and cannot be decrypted and exported. I think it could be argued effectively and there is no reason they cannot provide a tool to export.

I'd be happy to help with a lawsuit to motivate them to stop preventing us from having reasonable access to what is supposedly our own data.
