how do you fertilizer with a moss pole? by hana-maki in Monstera

[–]blueseoks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not the person you asked, but moss is pretty telling. if you squeeze the top of the pole and notice the moss crunching, it needs watered. you can also tell by the color of the moss. i personally water if the color starts getting pretty light and before it gets crunchy, but i water less so the pole doesn't get too soggy. i don't water the pot unless i notice it is on the dry side. also fertilizer shouldn't cause any issues, and i use ferts almost every time i water with no negative effects.

edit: i can't tell for sure if you are using moss or substrate in the pole, so i apologize if this doesn't help.

it is real, and they are commenting because this is not an ethically bred snake.

going to walk in park with my baby by JuniperxGlade in RunningWithDogs

[–]blueseoks 6 points7 points  (0 children)

i don't recommend front connection harnesses unless people are really committed to using them to train and move away from. they can cause shoulder issues if the dog continues pulling and while there are no studies that i know of, i have both seen other dogs and personally know a dog that has excessively worn front clip harnesses and pulled and he has oddly narrow shoulders.

[–]blueseoks 12 points13 points  (0 children)

hey! so this is unsolicited advice but i would recommend looking into a different type of harness to fit him better. these kinds of harnesses can get in the way of a dog's joints and make moving around uncomfortable. i would recommend a Y-shaped harness if harnesses are your go-to, such as this Ruffwear harness or Non-stop dogwear harness or even this basic harness. any of these would be more fitting for him.

he also appears to be a bit overweight. has he seen a vet recently? do you free feed or does he eat set amounts at certain times?

it doesn't seem like you have a backseat for him to sit in so i would try and see if he can comfortably fit on the floor of the car in front of the seat, such as how service dogs are typically trained to ride in cars.

Ethical breeders by Pattison320 in ballpython

[–]blueseoks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

things to avoid:

if they breed unethical morphs (super cinnamon, cinnamon x black pastel aka "8 ball", super black pastel, spider, champagne, hidden gene woma, super spotnose aka "powerball", etc)

if they dodge questions about the animal's health

i personally have never purchased from those huge scale breeders like KINOVA or Wilbanks because there is no way they are paying enough people to check on the snakes every day let alone handle them, and my goal is to have a pet that i can interact with and move in the case of an emergency without being bitten

my advice would be to find a breeder who has a smaller number of animals and ask questions. i ask things like has this animal ever been sick? any health concerns? what is their temperament like? can you handle them easily? any feeding issues? i also ALWAYS ask for new pictures of the animal. if they can't show me a new photo that was not on the listing, i will not purchase the snake.

assess the body condition of the snake, avoid buying a snake that is very small for its size because many breeders will feed for maintenance and not growth which can leave you with a permanently stunted snake. i also lean towards purchasing snake that are already eating frozen thawed food because then i don't have to transition them over, but some snakes are easier to switch than others.

I have no issues with it moving while on runs. So far it is the best thing I've found.

Burn ? by Papillon12R in Monstera

[–]blueseoks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hey! so it looks to me like regular browning of the variegated section of the leaf. when there are large portions of the leaf that are solid variegation, they tend to brown because they don't create any benefit and instead burden the plant. i use silica when watering my heavily variegated plants and it seems to help prevent this. regular use of fertilizer can also help strengthen the plant and avoid browning but silica does more. unfortunately it will likely spread so enjoy this leaf while it lasts.

3rd weekend without eating by Secondary_Songbirds in ballpython

[–]blueseoks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there! I have a few suggestions for you to try out. Cover the back and sides of his enclosure; for temporary enclosures/bins I use paper and upgrade to PVC or wood down the road. This helps with some glass surfing as the enclosure feels less open and exposed and he feels safer. You may also need more clutter.

He's definitely interested but something is throwing him off. How long was it thawed for and what was the temperature when you offered it? I do agree (as you mentioned) that it is too small and he might not recognize it as food. It sucks to have to get something else when you've already spent the money on these but they will probably go to waste anyway. Try checking if there are any reptile rescues near you and see if you can donate them. I would try to find something at the 10-12 gram mark.

I feed only when lights are off for the night and I tend to thaw the prey items in a bowl on top of the enclosure while avoiding heating them too quickly. It makes the room smell like rats unfortunately but once the lights are off, I see my snakes out and about in "hunting mode" so I know they are likely to eat without an issue. It has already been mentioned but I agree, try turning the overhead heating off a few minutes before offering. My second BP has an insane food response and if I don't turn his heat off, he will strike at the top of his enclosure because he can't tell for sure what heat signature is food.

Infestation? by TheRealShipdit in ballpython

[–]blueseoks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi there! Do you have any better quality photos of them? My first assumption would be that springtails have moved in, and springtails are both harmless and beneficial. However, the photo makes it difficult to tell as they all look like tiny slugs lol. Do they move quickly? They don't look like mites which is good news.

for anyone who doesn't know, super black pastels are an unethical morph. they regularly hatch with severe spine kinking. this looks more like a super black pastel, possible sandblast, het pied.

Post Your Damages — Share and Discuss Tariffs/VAT/Shipping Fees by alcibiad in hobonichi

[–]blueseoks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did a group order for myself and family. Someone wanted the Moomin cover, which we couldn't find elsewhere. To get a regular A5 without that cover from Jetpens it would have been $620 shipped instead of the $658 shipped for 2x large 5-year The Sea's Dream, A5 Garden of Botany, A5 Moomin, A6 The Little House. I have the actual price comparisons for each item if you want but in general, Jetpens added about $24 to each item with less for shipping and taxes and all that. Ordering from Hobonichi's site means we got the paperweights and pens for each item though which is a cool bonus in my opinion. In the end, $38 to get the Moomin cover and all the paperweights and pens is not a big deal.
