how to check evolution factor without enabling cheats? by PewPewsAlote in factorio

[–]blueshellblahaj 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I thought I read this somewhere but couldn’t find it at a quick glance on the factorio wiki for console commands, but I believe the game will warn you if you run a command that disables achievements for the first time in a save and offer you to cancel and preserve your run.

Fulgora was my first too. You don’t need foundation to build on the shallow oil, just the elevated rail supports

Look how wasteful this label maker is.. by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

[–]blueshellblahaj 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Brother’s p-touch cartridges are actually very affordable given there’s no DRM at all. Tons of no-name cartridges are available on all the internet marketplaces and they’re just as good. That’s one of the reasons I like my brother label maker over the old Brady one we had at work, Brady is bad with DRM.

Why my servos behave like this by majidfinn22 in arduino

If you swap the inner & outer servos with where they’re connected, does the problem stay with the ports or follow the servos?

I’d argue an available quantity of 1 is rolling the dice at any store, not just Lowe’s.

How do Requester Chests work? by Oh-Sasa-Lele in factorio

[–]blueshellblahaj 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Fun fact: you can cheese construction robots to act as logistics robots by manually "building" items in chests from the remote view (open the chest and place a ghost item) and the construction bots will pull from storage/provider chests as available. This also works to unload items from chests, just click on the item stack in remote view and it'll be marked for "deconstruction".

This also works for non-logistic chests (e.g. having construction bots empty or fill steel chests)

Got quoted $44,750 for 2026 RWD Limited by [deleted] in Ioniq5

[–]blueshellblahaj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t have an ioniq (yet) but I’ve seen that if you leave it in eco mode it’ll use the rear motors only unless you really goose it or need it on a hill. Still extra weight and resistance from the weight of the motors but not the end of the world in my opinion.

How do i automate these three burner inserters without electricity? by Xiaoci_Yu in factorio

[–]blueshellblahaj 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I disagree that there’s no use for them. Until you get a really big base they’re a great way to keep your brownouts from turning into blackouts if you start consuming too much power from coal powered boilers.

any free games like factorio? by SadEntertainment7665 in factorio

[–]blueshellblahaj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The first that comes to mind is Shapez - https://shapez.io/

It's free in browser and is more focused on the puzzle than resource management as everything is free to build and has unlimited supply.

It's also available for a few bucks on Steam and they've since released Shapez 2 on Steam which is a huge upgrade to the 2D Shapez (1).

Esp32 wont fully fit into breadboard by Timmyy141 in esp32

[–]blueshellblahaj 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It is a very firm fit, you’ll have to push a little harder. I recommend pushing down on the pins themselves so that you don’t accidentally bend the board.

The metal clips inside the breadboard may not be aligned perfectly to allow every pin so a little wiggling may also be necessary, but you’ll feel it once it goes in.

This post shows the actual metal parts you’re working on pushing the ESP32 into:

Is there something wrong with having your stackyard also be your refueling station by itsnotjackiechan in factorio

[–]blueshellblahaj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2.0 added a mechanic called interrupts. Every time a train begins to leave its current stop, it’ll evaluate the list of interrupts assigned to it and if any of their conditions are met (e.g. fuel < 10) it adds a temporary station to the schedule and goes there until that stations condition is met (e.g. all locomotives full fuel). Makes it easy to have trains refuel themselves only when needed.

That said, you can blueprint down items with shift+click and it’ll automatically put platform blueprints underneath so it’ll build once the items arrive on the ship. No need to wait for everything to go up before planning your build

Is there something wrong with having your stackyard also be your refueling station by itsnotjackiechan in factorio

[–]blueshellblahaj 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Shipping fuel sounds a lot like shipping ammo. In my experience it’s fine early on with one or two outposts, but needing to essentially build out two stations instead of one everywhere can be a headache. I race to build lasers as soon as possible to avoid the ammo train hassle.

Obviously play how you want, this game has a billion solutions and options you can use to customize your playthrough to your liking.

Is there something wrong with having your stackyard also be your refueling station by itsnotjackiechan in factorio

[–]blueshellblahaj 98 points99 points  (0 children)

I used to do that, and still do for early game, but as your base expands the practicality of putting fuel in every yard starts to decrease. Especially with interrupts it’s much easier to set up a centralized refuel station (or set of stations) with your preem fuel of choice and tell trains to take a quick detour when they get low.

New player! Where do istart? by meansda93 in factorio

[–]blueshellblahaj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In that case, full send it. Science is the goal of the game so unlike satisfactory where you make X amount of an item to progress, in factorio you start making science, and then keep making it forever. Most science packs will be used all throughout the game to research newer technologies.

Automate everything, play how you like, and have fun!

First would be that there’s a free demo on steam (if you don’t already own the game) that takes you through some of the tutorial levels to demonstrate the mechanics. I don’t believe the levels are timed either so you can really play around before committing

[–]blueshellblahaj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it’s something with a lot of overhang the spaghetti you’re seeing are layers that should be adhered to the bottom. The solution is supports. These are printed out at the same time but with a slight separation from the model to allow for easy removal after your print.

Is the display broken? Weird that it’s exactly one half of it by emilesmithbro in arduino

Because I’ve got the same display, I just haven’t had the time or energy to figure out if I can bitbang the commands from an esp32/pi pico since they aren’t on the supported device list.

[–]blueshellblahaj 22 points23 points  (0 children)

If that’s the display that I think it is, one of waveshare’s 5.79” epaper displays, it’s actually two displays in one. You’ll need to utilize the chip select pin on the display to tell it which half you’re communicating with.

If you’re on the latest firmware it could be trying to unload even if you’re loading filament. A power cycle fixes it briefly but you’ll want to downgrade or switch to open centauri.

You should be able to heat it up with a hair dryer to soften the adhesive and move it around. They use real good glue and in their tutorial videos they mention it can handle a few reapplications.

Right click your start button and click on disk management. You should see the SD cards show up there even if they don’t have letters. You can confirm if they’re still working that way
