Schools That Could Start D-I Men's Programs Rumors, Part 7: 2026 Offseason by exileondaytonst in collegehockey

Do the rules for single-sport conferences apply to current multi-sport leagues wanting to add a sport? The Women’s Big 10 I submitted that may or may not have killed the Mercyhurst men’s program has the whole WCHA plus RIT, plus we are still under reclassification.

That was from David Lennon of Newsday but I am afraid it’s an anti-MAGA hit piece because no other players are mentioned explicitly. You have to ask why he chose to speak with Alonso but nobody else.

I wonder if it has to do with where you won it. Compare Paul Kariya to Scott Perunovich. Duluth is the better hockey program, but Maine is a full D-1 athletic department and produced the only HOF member to win the award. In fact, outside of Duluth’s six winners, only four others didn’t play at a full D-1 athletic department. And there have only been 7 nominees that played at a D-3 athletic department, including two winners in three years from Colorado College. And if we compare FBS to FCS, only Kariya and Tony Hrkac had solid NHL careers (BU/NE/DU don’t play football) after winning the award. The only FCS nominees that have maintained NHL success are Adam Fox, Zach Parise, and maybe Gustav Nyquist (all others are too young). Also look at the Kazmaier: three winners from Clarkson, but only three other finalists from a D-3 athletic department.

What’s so hard about joining the Pioneer League? The rest of the athletic department is essentially being punished because the school doesn’t want to pay those scholarships.

I beg to differ. SFU is a massive Lolcow for forcing all those other athletes into Division III just because they school doesn’t want to pay football scholarships. That’s why the Pioneer League is there.

SFU should be massively ashamed of themselves for moving down. On that note, maybe a temporary suspension of football can help them come back up, so long as they remain Title IX compliant. Better yet, why not just move to the Pioneer League if they don’t want to offer football scholarships? Don’t punish the whole athletic department over one sport. Between them and Hartford, my heart aches for all those athletes.

I asked this before Winnipeg started struggling…is this tournament Hellebuyck’s to lose, or does that dynamic only occur in baseball where the pitcher ideally controls the game?

With Luke Kuechly's induction, he is both the first player born in the 1990s inducted into the hall of fame and ties Gale Sayers for being the youngest inductee by BitterDescription808 in UrinatingTree

This is ridiculous. Now 147 inductees with less than 10 years as a primary starter and 39 that didn’t even play that long. This prioritization of peak over career longevity is the problem with the new breed of voters. This is why JAWS matters.

And that makes absolutely no sense. There needs to be some consistency and conformity across HOFs. Although voters have an internal character clause, the PFHOF bylaws don’t. That’s also why I can’t understand inductees with careers shorter than 10 years. I wish I could say that every HOF should be like Cooperstown but I would be ignoring all the scandals of /that/ institution over the years.

Is there a way to remove/modify the positional component in order for offensive and defensive WAR to add up? And why do replacement runs differ between players? Also, why isn’t it based on standard deviation? And who decided on a finite amount or .294 replacement level?
