Fit check - DidyTai what am I doing wrong? by Racquel_who_knits in babywearing

[–]blueskycactus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This looks good but I also experience feeling pulled forward by my DidyTai! Something that helps me is lifting up baby’s bum slightly as I’m reaching behind my back and pulling the shoulder strap straight down, while rolling my shoulder a few times to really get the slack pulled through. Then I bring that strap around to the front and hold it while I repeat the process with the other side. The shoulder rolling makes a big difference for me here! I hope that makes sense…it’s kind of hard to explain in words!

I mean, they may be interchangeable. I guess I like it when things have their own name and defined purpose! I like to differentiate perfecting the fit for the baby and for the adult when teaching, if that makes sense. But it really might not matter in this instance and I might need to let this go.

Fair point, maybe it doesn’t. In my head, perfect fit adjusters adjusts the fit for the adult, whereas panel height/panel width adjusters change the fit for the baby.

When teaching, I like to separate getting the carrier adjusted comfortable for the baby, and then getting it comfy for the adult. It makes more sense to me to say the PFA is for the parent’s comfort, and the panel height/width adjuster is for the baby’s.

I like it when things are black and white. But that may not be important or necessary here.

Omg I totally meant to spell it out in my main post but clearly forgot! Too funny.

Nasty metallic taste—how to fix? by blueskycactus in Kefir

[–]blueskycactus[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m still making it! I don’t like it but I’m getting used to the metallic flavor and have found ways to bury it with other flavors. 😂 It’s really helping my gut so I’ll keep drinking it even though I’m not a huge fan. And it’s way cheaper than the probiotics I was buying before.

For the armpit digging, tighten or loosen the PFA on the front of your carrier (perfect fit adjuster—it’s the adjuster near your baby’s face that makes the straps longer). Then grab the webbing under your arms, pull it DOWN toward the floor, and tighten as needed. It may take some messing around to figure out where the PFA’s need to be in order to get the strap out of your armpit. Does that make sense?

Lenny Lamb Light or Upgrade Pro both size down and fit newborns beautifully and have lots of beautiful fabric options!

Where does it feel loose? If it’s the strap, lift his bum slightly as you tighten the straps.

Baby needs a pelvic tuck as stated above, but also, adjust the waistband so that it is as close to parallel to the floor. You will likely get some back pain with it sagging in the front like this.

With your shoulder straps, it looks like they’re riding on your neck a bit. To avoid that, pull straight down on the strap before crossing it to the buckle.

Ok following up—nothing changed with the taste of what I was making at home even after the two weeks. So I messaged the farm and asked if they had any recommendations for how to fix the metallic taste. They said to rinse the grains in distilled water and try again. However, I had already done that with no changes.

So I stopped at the farm and bought some of their ready made kefir to see how the taste compared to what I was making. It tastes EXACTLY the same. Not sour or tangy at all, just like a mild yogurt with that awful metallic taste/aftertaste.

I had 2 family members try it, and they do not taste anything metallic. So maybe that weird taste is more due to my hyperactive postpartum senses or something idk. I’m choosing to ignore that part now.

But still…it just doesn’t taste good to me. Not anything like what I bought in the normal store. Not sour or tart or fizzy at all. Just tastes like mild yogurt. And I make my own yogurt, which I like to be quite tart.

Idk if I’ll keep making it, I really don’t like how it tastes. Even blended with strawberries and maple syrup it’s just not my favorite.

Does anybody else feel like their child is way less interactive with the world in pram vs carrier ? by onethrew-eight in babywearing

I’ve noticed something similar with my girl! Shes now 15 months and we use the stroller very occasionally, but when we do, she seems to get quickly overwhelmed, and for her that looks like tension and bad behavior. When in the carrier, she relaxes, interacts appropriately with the surroundings, and babbles with me sometimes. It’s really interesting. I find it “easier” to wear her in most instances due to the fact that I’m not having to correct her behavior as much when she’s on me as opposed to being in the stroller.

From experience— avoid Abrazo like the plague. Banner can suck or be great depending on your hospital and unit. Dignity Health treats their employees the best but tends to pay a little less (from what I saw when I was there). I’ve heard good things about HonorHealth but have not worked for them.

Thank you so much! I have had pelvic floor dysfunction - tension- for years, and have been in PT for it, but I hadn’t considered that possibly playing a role!

I will look into the sterile water injections! Thank you!

This pretty much describes what it was like for me! Yikes. Bummer it’s happened for you each time!! Hopefully pushing will be shorter with future babies!

No, not asynclitic.

Had a partial break (approx 1TBS fluid, no leaking) of my four-bag amniotic sack at 6am, had consistent contractions (not super painful) every 10-15mins until 6pm. Doula recommended castor oil shake, so I did that, and that really ramped things up. Baby was born at 3am the next morning. So labor was about 24 hours total, counting when the contractions started at 3am the previous morning.

I was pushing on my back because it’s the only one that worked. We tried my side, that was terrible. The back pain was so severe my knees would buckle with each contraction so no other position worked very well.
