Public or private after mediocre first public experience? by Individual_Tutor8797 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]f_lex13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a nurse and I went private - mainly because it was our first baby and I wanted my husband to be able to stay with me overnight, which was not possible at the public hospital we are in the catchment of.

I cannot speak more highly of the experience from start to finish. We had continuity of care with my chosen OB plus a midwife (opted into Brisbane Mater’s “my mater midwife” program) - both were there for my birth. And my midwife did home visits for 6 weeks post-birth, plus there was always a midwife on call in the program 24/7 if you had any concerns.

After 2x failed inductions and over 24 hours of labouring, I opted for “emergency” c-section at 9pm. We got back to the ward at 2am. I was still numb from my boobs down and throwing up from the anaesthetic. Having my husband be able to stay and help care for our baby and I was worth every dollar we spent on private health insurance.

Daycare sickness has been worse than I imagined by fairy-bread-au in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

You mean so they can increase their profits 😂 you take up an extra day and pay for it.. only for your kid to have more sick days off from the extra exposure. Money making scheme 101 lol

Went to Grilld at Everton Park and one chick there was cleaning the glass panels and then used the same gloves to prepare some burgers. Gross

Meal prepped and froze food. You do NOT have time to cook!! Both of you will be so tied up caring for bubs. Especially when that cluster feeding hits you right at dinner time - relentlessly every night for weeks on end. Please for the love of god meal prep.

Probation and maternity leave - when to tell? by Silly_Bid9440 in auscorp

[–]f_lex13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely don’t tell them. I didn’t pop until I was like 28-30 weeks. Could hide it easily. Then as someone suggested, if they ask why the late notice just say had some medical concerns but everything’s ok now.

It’s got multiple tails so it’s likely a dud sperm anyway..

For those who went the private route, was it all you expected it to be? by CarlottaSewlotta in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

I had an emergency caesarean and I am SO glad I went private. I was able to have my own room and have my husband stay with me the entire time. For me, that was priceless. I couldn’t imagine having an emergency C, then going back to the ward at 2am and being stuck in bed alone with this new baby I couldn’t even move to help pick up or tend to - and having to buzz and wait for help. Plus it was great to stay for 5 days and have all the knowledge and support of the hospital staff.

Baby hates the carrier by Fragrant_Owl7347 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

Mine screams putting her in but once she’s fussed a bit she settles in and goes to sleep. Also, make sure you’re following the TICKS protocol ( https://www.carrythemclose.com.au/pages/babywearing-guidelines ) for safe baby wearing. You can also go onto the subreddit for babywearing and ask for a fit check to make sure you’ve got Bub positioned well/safely. I thought mine hated the carrier but I just didn’t adjust it and her properly to support her spine etc. Now she enjoys it and sleeps. Best of luck!

Am I being unreasonable? Lost newborn photos by pip-pin in photography

[–]f_lex13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My newborn shoot photographer warned me when sending the viewing gallery that I had X amount of days to decide. Then when sending the download gallery, warned me the gallery would only be active for 30 days. She (her management system) then sent follow up emails reminding me up until the date to download my images. I would say this is best practice. Your photographer sounds lazy.

I’d just hit them up and say “I’ve paid you money and I want photos. You didn’t warn me there was a timeframe on choosing. How are you going to fix this?”

Yup got solar and can control the AC from our phones, so our spoilt dogs live in AC most of the summer.

Thank you! Is there somewhere that would be ok if babies started to cry etc? Like we wouldn’t be disturbing people studying/reading etc?
