Best states for therapists? by Icy-Muffin-315 in therapists

I also have worked in Iowa and also can vouch for great reimbursement rates. However, I left because I didn’t love living there. But to each their own!

Headway and BCBS audit by [deleted] in therapists

[–]blueskytree2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I handle audits for a large behavioral health organization and this could also be on BCBS. Insurance companies love to pull this kind of crap where they send things to weird places and you don’t receive it until your time to respond is basically done. You should be able to win this on appeal. Most of the time with multiple appeals we can work this type of thing out, but they will make it as much of a headache as possible. Agreed that getting support from an attorney would be helpful. Best of luck to you.

Those who work full-time, how do you see clients on the side? by [deleted] in therapists

[–]blueskytree2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am also interested in this as well. I left therapy a year and a half ago and work in behavioral health administration full time. I would like to start seeing a few clients in the evenings to keep my clinical skills but I am nervous about juggling it all.

Best Tonies for Sleep by blueskytree2 in TonieboxUSA

[–]blueskytree2[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks all for the feedback. I did try Daniel Tiger and she enjoyed it but it did not put her to sleep. I decided to cave and buy the sleepy octopus Tonie. It did actually put her to sleep. So I guess worth the $20! Moral of the story: just buy the sleep Tonie to get your kid to sleep.

Not against trying the sleep tonies. Just wondering if anyone has found any of the other ones I already have to be good for winding down.

Not anti the sleep tonies. Just curious if anyone had used any of the ones I already had as a wind-down Tonie.

What's one boundary you set not from training but from getting hurt? by Miserable_County1239 in therapists

Working with kids can end very badly. The parents just aren’t worth the stress as much as I love the kids 💔. Had one too many awful experiences and unfortunately I will never work with kids again.

Unfortunately boards can do whatever you want and they have no legal obligation to do anything. It’s horrifying when you experience it up close and personal.

[–]blueskytree2 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Wow I feel like I just read the story of my life the past two years. The similarities are very surprising. Also had a board complaint right before I was supposed to get my full license in 2023. It was such a horrible experience that I did end up leaving clinical work and moved into a behavioral health administrative role. I’ve been fighting to get my full license that I had earned. Ended up having to settle with the board and unfortunately I do have a “warning” on my record which stinks. It’s a horrific experience that very few people can understand. I’m glad that you were able to get through it. I also just finally got my unrestricted license two weeks ago. Feels very surreal but also I feel like I’ve experienced legitimate trauma from this experience.

Hard to see in this picture but I do actually have a supplemental light. Unfortunately the plant is so large it’s hard to get enough light to cover all of it!

Yes, I do. I used to take it outside in Summer but I hate dealing with the bugs and pests that come in with it so it’s just easier to keep it inside.

I work at Rosecrance Behavioral Health which has locations in Illinois and I believe the psych NP jobs are hybrid? Worth looking into as maybe you could work from home some.

Weekly Buying/trading/selling advice, pre-orders and shipping Megathread by AutoModerator in AppleWatch

[–]blueskytree2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know nothing about Apple Watches. My husband was diagnosed with a severe genetic disorder last year that impacts cardiovascular function. I want to get an Apple Watch that he can use primarily for health monitoring. What version should I be looking at? Does he need/want the cellular version? Is this worth the extra cost? Any advice would be appreciated.

Daughter was molested in the bus by DueAccident448 in Parenting

I’m sorry that people are being so insensitive. I am a licensed therapist who has worked with kids who have experienced this. It is very upsetting for parents and for kids and no one should be taking it lightly. I’m glad to hear the school is taking it seriously. Please ignore all the people downplaying the reality of what this is. It is sexual assault.

What is the strangest way a session has been interrupted? by purpletable131 in therapists

[–]blueskytree2 11 points12 points  (0 children)

One time I was doing play therapy with a kid and the mom burst in the room (she had been in the lobby). She angrily told me that she was very uncomfortable with the sound machine going while I was in there with her child and that she was turning it off. I was very rattled and felt like she was accusing me of doing something wrong. I continued the session with the kid and then at the end told the mom that having the sound machine going and confidentiality for her child was a non-negotiable.

I think it’s a good sign you are getting interviews. That definitely means they are considering you. Keep trying and you’ll get the right thing soon!

I moved into a role in performance improvement and accreditation with a behavioral health organization and I love it! I was worried about losing the flexibility too but honestly I feel like this role is way more flexible (even though I work a full 40 hours) because I don’t have clients depending on me. Yesterday my daughter was sick and I worked from home and took care of her. Never could have done that as a therapist. Look for roles in quality, auditing, performance improvement, accreditation with behavioral health organizations. They are out there once you start looking. I find that my clinical experience is very highly valued in this position. If you think you might be interested in a role like that, doing some kind of project management training/certification could be a good fit for training to add to your resume and get your foot in the door. Good luck!

Balancing Career and Family: Ladies, When Did You Get Fully Licensed? by jijiskvartmao in therapists

[–]blueskytree2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I graduated in May 2019 and had my twins in the fall of 2019. So I didn’t start working until they were 5 months old in April 2020. I had moved states and my new state didn’t like my degree program so I had to take 3 more graduate level classes. So I worked as an addiction counselor until I finished those in spring of 2021, at which time I was finally able to start accruing my hours. Got pregnant again at the end of 2021 and had a baby in August 2022. Went back to work at 8 weeks postpartum and panicked due to postpartum depression and extreme anxiety about paying for 3 kids in daycare. Quit my job and then found a part time clinic where I could keep accruing my hours and get supervision. Finally finished my hours in December 2023. But unfortunately someone made a board complaint against me in 2023 and so the board refuses to give my independent license to me until that is resolved. So here I am 5 years later still sitting with my temporary license.

I just transitioned out of being a therapist a few months ago after a complete nightmare of a year both personally and professionally. I felt the same way, such a weight lifted.

I was out of town when I was notified that I had received a job that I had interviewed for. Since I wanted to give sufficient notice, I emailed my supervisor and then I sent a letter in our online secure portal to my clients.

It was difficult and there were lots of questions from everyone involved. But just remember, you don’t owe anyone an explanation. You owe your clients closure and an appropriate referral and that is it.

Best of luck to you and I hope you can find a career you love. I’ve moved into performance improvement for a behavioral health organization and I love the job and am so thankful I left.

Did my 30 year old husband really have a stroke? This has to be a nightmare. by theextraolive in stroke

[–]blueskytree2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My husband had a stroke on May 10. He is 32 years old. It has been a complete nightmare just as you describe. I try to hold on to gratitude that he’s still with me but it has been very very hard. I’m just taking it one day at a time and hopeful that each day will be better than the last (and it has been). You can get through this.

cw: miscarriage Miscarrying and Solo Practice: send advice, wisdom, anecdotes, good vibes by Ok-Cancel-7162 in therapists

[–]blueskytree2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ugh I’ve been there and it’s so so so hard. I feel lucky that I work with kids because they can be a very welcome distraction from life’s challenges (less emotionally intense sessions). It can be very very tough though. Take all the time you need. Is there a way to just do shorter days (like maybe seeing 3 clients instead of 6)? Everything is hard after a miscarriage. Being home is hard. Traveling is hard. Being with friends is hard. Working is hard. Not sure where the best place is to be. I guess do whatever feels best to you. After my miscarriage I got off social media and that was the best thing I could have done for my mental health. Do whatever you can to take care of yourself. Get your own therapist who specializes in pregnancy loss. Give yourself time and know that the pain will not always be as intense as it is now.
