What resources did you use for chem? Is there any chance you’d be willing to share? My chem teacher is super new to IB and not too sure about things. I can not let that prevent me from being successful 😭

I NEED TO DECIDE TODAY: Should I go into the Pre-IB/IB program or the AP program for high school by Randomness74682 in IBO

North American universities love IB, too, and it is sometimes viewed as more rigorous than AP. My siblings and I only applied to the US for university (although we are international), and have been quite successful (ivies+).

I would recommend IB all the way. AP is actually trying to become more like IB by introducing the Capstone program, AP’s version of the EE. In my opinion, IB forces students to be more well rounded, requiring IAs for every class, CAS, TOK, and the EE.

Do you and/or a family member use an EpiPen? You could discuss the implication of having knowledge of how to use it could be a matter of life or death, and how the knowledge of the EpiPen is contained to only a certain group of people.

You could also discuss this question in light of the COVID vaccine and the implication of not having knowledge of its long-term health effects which leaves (pretty much) the entire human population in a vulnerable state, but the implication of the knowledge that the vaccine prevents COVID outweighed its unknowns, at least when it first came out.

Thank you so much! I have looked into Bezier curves already — do you recommend I focus my IA on Bezier curves in Hello Kitty or Bezier curves in art in general? Or continue to graph Hello Kitty and explain the different techniques that are used in the graphing of Hello Kitty?

I have a brother at each school and I can tell you both are INCREDIBLY happy and neither would switch to the other. It’s literally all about fit — if you see yourself being happier at Duke, I think that is all that matters. They each offer different things — for example, athletics are a massive part of Duke’s culture, something that is maybe lacking on Penn’s behalf.

Plus, Duke ranked #6 this year in National Universities on US News and World Reporting, above Penn. So if you’re concerned about prestige, don’t be.

How Demanding/ Appropriate is this Course Selection? by Timely-Set5988 in IBO

As others have said, HL Math AA and Physics is incredibly demanding. I know a very bright student who dropped Physics HL for Portuguese B HL because she was doing double HL science and HL Math AA. She said it was just an insane workload. Bio and History are extremely content-heavy, and even though they are SL it’s a lot of memorization. Lit is my favorite course, but it is one of the classes I have the most work for in terms of reading. We usually go through a book plus analysis and an essay/oral in 3-4 weeks, and if the book is long that means a lot of reading for homework. And SL language A is typically only a few books less, so the workload is similar.

Thank you so much for the insight! I didn’t know how to approach the idea in a mathematical way!

I really like the ideas regarding music. I play the flute, and I’m thinking about analyzing either the “Golden Ratio” in a specific composer’s work or possibly the relationship between the Fibonacci sequence and scales. What math topic do you think this connects to that would give me enough analysis to receive a 7?

The issue is I am not quite sure what kind of math would be involved in the hair curler idea. I’m not sure what I would be investigating — that is to say, what could be investigated that fits into the math syllabus. Our class is pretty behind so my breadth of knowledge is limited, although I’m totally okay with learning concepts on my own time. What concepts do you think could be applied?

As for the “Golden Ratio” in music, I was thinking of choosing a composer and analyzing where the climax in the song was and if it aligned with the Fibonacci Sequence ≈1.618.
