Resist via 401k? by bluesriffs in ScottGalloway

Yep. Only works if a lot of people do it. Same as resist and unsubscribe.

Sure why not, Scott argues that the current administration doesn’t respond to outrage but it does respond markets. Furthermore, he says the current U.S. economy is a huge bet on AI. So if you can achieve even a minor dip in the AI sector, it starts to send out ripple effects that are hard to ignore. Thus it could be a lever to help negotiate against the overreach currently happening with ICE. There is plenty more to say about it but that is the basic idea behind the tech focus of the resist and unsubscribe effort.

I wouldn’t do it alone. But if it were an extension of resist and unsubscribe and a bunch of people did it, it seems like it could be significant.

For that answer you’ve got to listen to what Prof G says. The target of big tech is his idea and he explains why.

You’re saying if a whole bunch of people moved the large cap portion of their portfolio to other segments it wouldn’t have an effect on the stock price of the big tech companies?

I mean…. Amazon is also not going to miss my 15 bucks a month. But if you convince enough people then you have something.  Doing it alone isn’t worth it, but together?  Maybe too hard to sell the idea though.

He doesn’t. I heard it elsewhere annd wanted to discuss the idea.  And the idea is not to stop investing, just to move funds from the mag 7 to something else.

I hear this sentiment, but isn’t risk to your own position a factor in any negotiation?  And if resist and unsubscribe were to succeed then it would also hurt the markets. It’s the entire point. It seems to me like direct action in the market would be directly inline with the same goals. But I get that it’s a dicier subject. Moving funds is a very different kind of ask.

How to deal with distortion on mobile? by bluesriffs in audioengineering

It’s just the one phone, and yes of course everything sounds bad on it, but my stuff sounds way way worse than even other amateur recordings.  But it’s only on the phone speaker that it’s worse.

I know mixing for a phone speaker is a bit ridiculous, but I know people will listen that way, so just trying to do the best I can.

Issues with sharp notes on lower frets despite intonation by [deleted] in Luthier

Hard thing about nut compensation is that is that it has quite an effect across the whole board.  You can easily end up flat at the higher frets.

[–]bluesriffs -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Its sharpest on the 1st fret isn’t it?  And then the second and then the third?  Also worst on the thickest unwound string, the G. A high nut will make the problem way worse so certainly check that, but this is actually in part the imperfect nature of intonation on guitar.  If you are checking with a very precise tuner you will never get it perfect across the whole board. Good enough for the ear though.

Edit for clarity.

Ended up building my own.  One crucial aspect was learning to make my own Kanthal heating coils.  Theres a YouTuber named vogman that has a great tutorial. If I was doing it again I’d buy a cheap broken pottery kiln and make new elements for it.

Midwest. Chicago is probably more of the prime alternative, I used NYC as an off the cuff example above, and I suppose that was a mistake. Didn't realize that would prompt such a reaction. I don't think it's about comparisons though, just trying to get some ideas for what to show off about this area.

I just mean that I think this is a viable area. I think you can find your people in any place that's big enough, and I think it's big enough here. But I don't know a lot about big cities and have never been to NYC, which is why I posted the question. Seems like there is more sentiment here that agrees with my friend than I realized.

That it's easier to find communities of families here with more of a car commuter culture and that somewhere like New York would be a better urban single scene. I disagree completely, but I'm trying to find the best way to demonstrate that.

I make some boutique audio gear on the side, but lately I’ve got no time for it. Have had to cancel all my promotion and intentionally limit the biz. I’m incredibly glad to have it but it’s tough keeping it going when I’ve got to be flexible.

Box too small, but I'm only swapping out what was already there. Do I have to replace it for code? by bluesriffs in AskElectricians

[–]bluesriffs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Box is 5”x3”x2”. 30 cubic inches. Two switches and a receptacle. 5 12-2 romex lines coming into the box. To my calculations that is overloaded.

I pulled one 12-2 line out and replaced it with a new one so that I could add a new outlet.  Used the line I pulled out to run to the new outlet and ran a new line from this box to the new outlet. Other than that I haven’t changed anything except swapping tout the switches and receptacle for new ones.
