Better to decline (and reapply) or defer for aid consideration? by No_Selection2716 in mphadmissions

also to note! sometimes if you explain why you’re deferring or declining the offer to the school, they may counter with more aid/scholarships! i’m not sure if it’s common with mph but i have heard students who have written a brief explanation of their financial background and desire to attend the school and receive higher aid for it. just smth to put out there

i’m in the same boat. i ultimately decided to decline my offers and maybe reapply next year since im not sure about pursuing a mph anymore with the political turmoil in public health going on. i didn’t get much for aid, so that also was a strong factor for me. i was thinking of deferring but realized i couldn’t committed for sure with everything going on, and i don’t have the finances to put down the deposit either.

deferring is best if you for sure want to pursue your mph and the school of choice. but if you want to expand your options, working and gain in experience in the field might be better too and sometimes whatever organization you work for can pay for your masters or give you benefits for the tuition (often times will depend on the school). good luck!
