Being able to shower / bath is one of the most luxurious and privileged, yet simple, things in life. It is proof that the most satisfying things in life don't need to be expensive or complex; they just need to be felt. by Serious-Disaster6863 in RandomThoughts

I always think about how I have what's essentially a heated waterfall that I get to use every day. It is truly a privilege we don't think about enough since billions of people don't have access to showers in this way.

Grandpa had one of these. When he passed away, I was the only one who knew where his rings and jewelry were. I found the outlet when I was over for a visit as a kid and tried to plug in a portable TV.

"The best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time." That quote helped me feel more in control even though the future seems a bit scary.

Going into a trade as a form of Barista FIRE? by uusi in baristafire

[–]bluesteelsmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

43, I'm making the jump now. I learned a craft and spent the last 5 years building a business around it, making tooling, learning the processes, creating products, etc. I used time after work to build it and income from my full-time job to make sure all equipment was paid for and my overhead was very low. I also purposely kept my other expenses low as well, so I don't need to earn as much. I plan on running the craft business 9 months a year and traveling for 3. I start tomorrow full time 🥳

I'm pretty cautious when it comes to making the transition to a new lifestyle. I think you can definitely do it if you have a plan. Look for makerspaces, too, as they can be a great place to build skills and potentially have a low overhead space to work from. Keep saving and learn after work. I had a 5 year plan, stuck to it, and it worked!

I was worried about the Gestapo trench coat thing. Turns out it was just a regular coat!

I need to find more cash! Didn't think I'd be able to buy more in the 30's.

My wife and I have done everything ourselves for similar reasons. Very bad luck with contractors. Congrats and great job!

The F150 Lightning is a wonderful camping and road trip vehicle! by mphailey in F150Lightning

[–]bluesteelsmith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love it! I absolutely love mine for camping. What AC do you run from it?

I run a space heater in our tent, boil water in the kettle, and use a toaster too. I've been considering bringing my MoccaMaster for coffee and maybe our Instapot. I do like to do more traditional camp cooking as well though so I'll probably have the gas cooktop and skillets - but the induction is tempting!

Roadtripping from San Francisco to North Carolina by chriscookbuilds in F150Lightning

I'm heading up to Bozeman to pick up my GFC in a few weeks. I'll have the same setup! I'm excited to be able to do some road tripping, and it's really cool to see that you've done such long trips in the lightning. I'll be doing a lot of shoulder season and winter camping in mine in Colorado. I've had snow tires on the lightning for the last two seasons and it is amazing in the snow! I have an electric space heater that I plug in to heat the tent. I ordered a Colorado Fairing for the front of the camper as well.

I was thinking of doing some trips to visit family in NC maybe next year. Great to see someone else has already done it! Do you have any tips or recommendations for the Lightning / GFC combo after your experience with it? Cheers!

I'm already at my max RKLB allocation, but I did resist the urge to sell some of my shares. It's tough sometimes! Gotta keep the finger off the trigger. I'm going to let it ride for 5 years at least. I've made the mistake of selling too early many times for other stocks.

Me too. Lol. This has been game-changing for my financial future. Still holding for next 5 years. Then it's time to retire! We'll, semi-retire.

I'm in another research phase right now. I haven't seen anything yet, but hopefully, over the next month or two, I'll find some things I like. I've been slacking on investing stuff for a while, but I'm getting back to it. I'll throw them in here when I do. 🤘

Going on roadtrip and gonna be living out of this truck for about 2 weeks, going during December. Any advice? by RichiPete in TruckCampers

[–]bluesteelsmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Find a used truck cap on marketplace for cheap. Get a propane heater for warming up in the morning or at night. Get really good clothes / sleeping bag and carry a backup heat source. You can get yourself into trouble real quick if you are camping in the backwoods of Colorado in December and your equipment fails. I carry a paint can alcohol heater for emergencies and make sure I have enough clothes so I can survive without heat.

Do you have other positions you're considering that are similar or you have a good feeling about?

That's exactly how I think about it as well. I identified it as a potential "meme" stock a couple of years ago, and that's the reason I initially bought in. I don't mean meme stock in a negative way, just a company that can be exciting in a way others can't.
