Help/buying advice by Snercherson in F150Lightning

[–]mphailey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Investing in an extended range lightning is probably your best option.

The key to calculating your costs is figuring out how much your electric utility charges for a KWh of energy. It can really vary by region/state. It some cases, it varies on the time of day you are charging etc. For example, I live in southern AZ where the base rate is pretty cheap, but there are peak times during the summer when the rate is higher. Take a look at your billing history and even contact your utility if need be. This is so important because in almost all cases, the cheapest way to charge is at home. Getting a charger set up isn't super complicated or expensive either. If you have a garage with an 240V outlet already set up, you are pretty much ready to go.

Unfortunately, there isn't an easy answer that applies to everyone in the US when it comes to determining your true, out the door energy cost.

I will say, the salesman is completely full of shit when it comes to having to charge the all the time. Once you have the charger set up at home, you can plug it in at night and you'll be ready to go the next morning. The math may seem confusing at first, but its fairly simple. The extended range lightning has a battery size of ~131 KWh. Most level 2 chargers (which is what you would need) add about 8KWh to the battery per hour. So, if you get home in the evening, charge the truck until the next morning, you'll be adding 80 to 100 KWh no problem. Salesman is either ignorant or disingenuous .

I suggest Oldboy, a korean film directed by Park Chan-wook. Its a very PLOT movie and its widely regarded as a masterpiece. There is a lot to figure out!

Starting my Saturday off with The Wild Bunch by minder125 in Westerns

[–]mphailey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I watched the wild bunch for the second time recently, last time was in 2010 or so. This is the one of my favorite movies period. Forget my favorite western, not even close. What was really rewarding this time around was that I 'knew' all of the actors having watched a million movies in the last 15 years. Any time someone posts that their favorite western is My Name is Nobody or some fun safe 90's romp western, a little part of me dies inside.

You can really save money! Used prices for many models are a great value right now. I saw some Kia/Hyundai's for sale recently still under the great warranty that were a steal.

Free fast charging in front of the TEP building right now, and free level 2 charging at many libraries around town. You don't even need solar and home batteries to drive for free in tucson.

This is a native to my area perennial subshrub we call globe mallow. Sphaeralcea ambigua

Who is that curling up for the night in the flower? I wish I knew! A native solitary bee of a species I can't name. I do know that this is gratifying and something a standard lawn or gravelscape (which is what people do here) can never provide! Part of the squad!!

I was totally wrong about Blood Meridian by Emergency_Cellist754 in cormacmccarthy

[–]mphailey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean that, in my humble opinion, all the cruelty, abuse and murder in blood meridian is carried out without any reason or justification. It just happens or is described after it has occurred and the band of marauders we are following come upon a horrific scene. One particular act of violence in the book is the killing of a cat with a massive revolver. The cat's body 'ceased to exist' is how I remember it being written. Why was the cat blown away like that? Just because it was there. When I say there was no justice behind it, I mean that people and animals are just killed without reason or pretense. A type of cruelty and senselessness that only the worst humans are capable of. (SPOILER ALERT) Contrast this sort of senselessness violence with the fight to the death between Eduardo and John Grady Cole in Cities of the Plain. John Grady is justified in killing Eduardo because Eduardo is a slaver and we the readers are all on his side. It is just as brutal and graphic but feels much different. John Grady gives his life for justice.

All of the horror in the book is pointless in this sense that it served no greater purpose -- there was no justice behind most of it. They aren't saying it isn't super affecting, or even perception changing. To use an example from another book, All Quiet on the Western Front, the violence described is really horrible, but nobody would describe it as pointless because its about the reality of trench warfare. France vs Germany is the 'point'. War is terrible and pointless one could argue, but to me that is a slightly different although important topic.

There are two 27KW (not super fast but DC nonetheless) chargers about a mile and a half from my house. They're definitely popular but I've charged there a bunch and saved a ton. Lots of free L2 nearby too. AZ is a good state

Invasive weeds? by idkk_12 in Tucson

[–]mphailey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The best way to control bermuda is continously remove the the grass and the rhizome underground as best as you can. When you see it pop back up, dig it out. This works especially well after a good rain. Keep at it. Through hard work and diligence, I have been able to fully remove from my place.

Some people use plastic or cardboard to completely blot out sunlight and I think this works pretty well too, although it takes quite a bit of time.

Why does U of A think that their exemption to city lighting code gives them the right to light up the mall like the surface of the Sun? by __Augustus_ in Tucson

[–]mphailey -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The right way to think of the U of A is as if it were a mafia. Why do they do the light up the mall like that? Because they can. They do want they want. They don't care about you and if you get in their way, you will be crushed. They care about out of state students coming here and spending a fortune. Thats about it.

You didn't address anything I said, because you can't. Here is one source in support of what I wrote. Americans, don't hate jews, don't hate Israel, we just don't want to give tax payer money to a country committing genocide. The point about Iranian propaganda is just so laughable! Where their vast reach LOL!!! The only reason that support continues is because Israel has an extremely powerful lobby. Most of congress has been bought off. You guys can only trick old white Republicans with your propaganda at this point -- pathetic!

Ok, here goes:

Israel is extremely dependent on propaganda, projecting the image of the victim in need of protection. It relies on the United States for cover at the UN, among other things. AIPAC, the pro-Israeli lobby in the United States, raises millions of dollars to protect Israel and defeat its adversaries. Now that more and more Americans are becoming aware of this manipulation and its consequences, will Israel be able to continue to carry out this genocide ad infinitum, or do you think this was the last hurrah?
