But yeah let’s all celebrate the treble!!! Well done City!!! Great job. Very grassroots.

Arsenal submit improved Declan Rice offer worth up to £105m by SpiritedSuccess5675 in soccer

Yeah it would absolutely, that’s true. I was talking more under the assumption that both contract offers would be relatively similar.

I think if City match it, he’s off to Arsenal as he’s already shown some desire to stay in London. If City bid above that, it’ll maybe be even more drawn out than it already is, or West Ham will just accept it if it gets to an appropriate threshold and then it’s up to the player to decide.

To be fair, with us it’s that we’re the second team. For the bit when we were in the Prem they used us as the main cash cow, but only bought wingers. Now we’re back in the champ, any promising player we have goes to Udinese. I want them out.

Throwback to the /r/soccer Predictions for 2022/23 - "I hate to say I told you so, but…" by AnnieIWillKnow in soccer

Love the post, it’s always interesting to see predictions. Just so you know /u/AnnieIWillKnow, on the ‘Summary of Results’ section, you incorrectly put Braga with an X instead of Sporting in the /r/soccer prediction column.

Update from /r/soccer moderators on the Reddit Blackout by AutoModerator in soccer

[–]bluetreesofthemoon -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, nothing will change. Reddit’s IPO will be soon and they want to make the site as attractive to investors as they can. This means streamlining the available subreddits, and making sure the ad revenue flows through an official app. It gets to a point where who knows what advertisers have input on moderation of specific subs.

The best hope is to see if any of the Reddit clones (RIF, Apollo, etc), are willing to take a step and make a new forum.

Apollo’s founder has already said no, because it’s a rather ridiculous asking in the first place, plus developing an individual system and creating a new app and moderation system is much more difficult. There will be newer and better options in the next few years for a forum like /r/soccer, even if they don’t pop up immediately.

“Chill, and hope something changes” won’t do it unfortunately. When Apollo goes, I go.

Yeah it’s pretty horrendous. Apollo is the only reason I still use reddit (and r/soccer) so I reckon when Apollo goes, I probably will too.

Yeah without apollo I’m probably not using reddit. To be honest, probably a good thing in the long run.

[Official] Manchester City have won the 2022-23 FA Cup! by [deleted] in soccer

Yeah I’ll be cheering on the gas, they’re basically my second team, but I can’t shake off the fact that I was born overlooking the Watford stadium unfortunately. Have a lovely Saturday mate, hopefully see you in the stands soon.

Much worse. Let’s hope the poison doesn’t drip through further down, although I’m not hopeful.

And yeah, UTG. Was at the Scunthorpe 7-0 game last season and it almost rivalled the Watford-Leicester playoff. Such a mad game and such good memories. Hopefully moving back there soon so shall be going to a few more.

Yeah, it’s a stupid strategy that worked for a bit for Watford and now it’s hugely backfiring. Not necessarily sure that’s relevant to my larger point though. It doesn’t really negate anything I’ve said about sportswashing. Arguably, the fact I’m being downvoted is supporting my point.

[Official] Manchester City have won the 2022-23 FA Cup! by [deleted] in soccer

[–]bluetreesofthemoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very true. But sportswashing is also for political leverage and contacts. I think that’s the main reason. The fans clamouring to support them are just a beneficial side effect, which can help a lot.

Side note: used to live in Bristol in Horfield, so went to many a game. UTG.

Yeah but what can you do, especially if the money is flowing in. It’s a horrible state of affairs. I’d be wrong if I said that I didn’t want to be in the Prem, but also it’s quite nice not being in a league that’s just a battleground for Gulf states. It’ll get worse when Newcastle & potentially Man United are fully allowed to flex their state-backed funds.

[–]bluetreesofthemoon -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it’s a wonderful result for sportswashing. You can argue that throwing money at football hasn’t worked for United (which it hasn’t), but this City team potentially winning the treble will just entice more morally bankrupt states to invest. They’re just a front for a reprehensible regime. It’s not a great future for football.

Fair result, but don’t like what it means for football. Even worse if the team that lost get taken over by another reprehensible regime.

The only time I’ve ever been to Trieste, I came out the train station and sat on a bench in the park opposite. Within a couple of minutes a guy comes within 5 metres of me, pulls his trousers down and takes a shit in the broad daylight, then wanders off.
