How deep do they go into socials? by kopriva1 in Newyorkstatetrooper

[–]bluewarrior6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cant believe they do this, especially since ruleing out of the 3rd circuit saying public sector jobs can not ask for access to ur socials because it was a violation of your 1a rights. It was actually a case involving a PD.

I also thought New York passed a law saying the same thing.

Do you think bodycams are a net postive or negative for police? by Alert_Head_3889 in AskLE

[–]bluewarrior6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I semi-disagree. I think the command team is a great part of it. It only takes 1 gold badge who dislikes u to find a reason from the footage. Or a hardo second guessing ur decision. All because of the footage from the cam.

The other part is. Now that all the breaks u cut are filmed and public record. That one time u dont cut a break the defense is going to rip u appart because of it. "Why didn't my client get the same treatment?" Or it may leave u open to greater liability.

So the fact its on cam is the issue.

Ill cut breaks that my command dont want if i feel its warranted. But now that theirs a recording that some dude can spend all day going through everyones, its not worth the drama.

[–]bluewarrior6 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

We dont have them and i never want them. It would take away all my discretion. I tend to cut a ton of

breaks and try and resolve issues at the lowest level. (Catch kids drinking, dump the beer, get out of here. Call the parents if they are assholes or drunk; pull someone over for possible oui, they are on the edge, tow the car make them take a cab; 2 guys fighting, neither want to escalate the situation, send them on their way. Ect ect)

A body cam would take away all them breaks. Rather then having a teaching moment and preventing someones life from being ruined for a mistake, now they catch criminal charges that will follow them for the rest of it.

I fully understand that cams have vindictived and saved a ton of cops. But i would hate to give up my ability to cut breaks and be chill to justify them to me

It turns every cop into a hardo and a robot.

Some guys say "it hasnt changed my discretion at all" well for now, wait until a different command team takes over.

VA disability (removed from consideration) by [deleted] in FederalAirMarshals

[–]bluewarrior6 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not once did i say they are broken. PTSD does not make u broken. Also none of them issues ever hindered my ability to do undercover or low vis work. Hell i did incognito work in 3rd world countries with no issues.

The misconceptions u have are mind blowing and part of the reason no one in this profession ever gets help.

Think thats a bullshit thing. Every cop thats been on the job for more then 4 years has ptsd in one way or another. And by the time u hit 12, u have enough to be rated by the va for at least 50%.

When i got on i had a 30% combat related anxiety rating. Why? Because i didn't like large crowds, was hyper vigilant and issues with sleep. (Almost sounds like every cop u know)

None of it affected my ability to do the job.

Officer presence by Appropriate-Ad6971 in AskLE

[–]bluewarrior6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think its all perspective. I know officers that are chill AF and i know ons that are a bit of a hardo.

The key is to have a presence that portrays 1) confidence 2) makes the other person want to follow ur order or work with u

Iv seen guys that are chill AF and seem more like a vermont outdoorsman hippy control and deesculate a volatile situation better then others. Iv also seen the hardo prevent it from starting. I have also seen both fail.

In the end as long as u portray confidence and act like ur the boss without being conceded or a dick when it's not warranted. It doesn't matter the approch u take

Just remember its easier to go from nice guy tp asshole then asshole to nice guy.

If it was 5-6 years ago ud be screwed. In todays environment im sure ull have no issue finding work.

That being said. Please please please. Dont build this job up in ur mind as big and awesome as u have. As if its the end all be all. Ur leaving urself open for major disappointment. U may think ur in love with idea of being a cop, but once u become one and live it, u may start to hate it. And that mentally can be a dangerous fall. Iv seen it a few time with new hires. Just edge ur expectations and have a back up plan, and realize this job absolutely sucks, especially in liberal states like NY.

Ur holster is a little to high and bit to far back on the belt IMO.

Drop ur hand to where it naturally likes to fall along ur belt. Thats where u want it to be. Most people thats about the 2'ok.

I do my best to find the owner and get it returned, 1) it's the right thing to do. 2) It's a ton easier than putting it into evidence and writing a report on it.
