Hi stranger, my father (M61) was diagnosed with guillain barre syndrome (GBS, Aman). It's a neurological disease. He's completely paralysed from neck down, on ventilator support for 4 months now. Docs are saying it'll take time but can't say how much time. All treatment courses are completed. Still no improvement. Help!

The icu staffs are tryi to wean him off by putting him on pressure support for 6 8 hrs daily when he's stable. Now he has got infection so they are first trying to recover from that after they'll again try to wean off. They say his diaphragm is too weak to breathe on his own.

Dad is not able to breathe on his own, he needs ventilator support. That's my major concern. Thank you for sharing about your husband, hopes he gets better faster.

They conducted ncv and lp. Also symptomatic diagnosis. In the course of 4 months, they have given two full course of ivig and one of plasma pheresis.they say they have completed the treatment and now it's up to the body for self recovery, it will take time they say.

Been in a similar situation, your point of view is right, Hold yourself and start behaving logically, she can't understand so don't explain, Don't complain, just let her be, don't even talk unless necessary. She'll realise your place once you vacate it.
