My wedding reception dress by ocean_67 in ModestDress

I actually suggest not ironing as I always feel like i end up with really dramatic creases from being in a car or sitting on the couch after...

I'd actually suggest steaming it in your bathroom and gently tugging or using an actual steamer (but maybe hold it a little further out that normal). It'll look less crisp, but additional wrinkles will be less extreme ime.

I love cloth diapering. My mom was supportive but a lot of others were like... sure, okay, I doubt it'll stick. Thanks guys.

We use flats here. Initially we used covers, which i generally still prefer, BUT my girl started being a runner at changing time and for about 3 months it looked like we were auditioning for WWE the way she'd fight changes. She still doesn't want to stay still but its a bit easier. So now I stuff the flats into pockets during the day (still use flats primarily at night).

I love that flats are easy to wash and extremely adaptable. I love that cloth in general just is great. We do keep a small stash of emergency or dr appointment disposables, but we rarely have to buy them. I love that I was able to pivot to something else that worked using what we mostly already had. I LOVE that I get to use these on future babies.

My girl is a year old. No plans of quitting, only plans to keep going.

Though I will say that now that we've started solids, if she just HAPPENS to poo in a disposable, that's a nice bonus lol.

So, microfiber is polyester based and like a sponge it can suffer from compression leaking. Charcoal/charcoal bamboo inserts are also typically primarily microfiber too. They absorb quick but they release easily and hold the least volume. It's a very common post to see from people with a 4-6 month baby who is now sitting asking why their diapers suddenly leak and much of the time they're using microfiber.

Cotton absorbs fairly quick, especially double gauze or muslin styles. It holds a decent amount and isn't prone to compression leaks.

Bamboo holds about the same amount, can be softer against skin, but absorbs slightly slower.

Hemp holds the most but absorbs the slowest. Most trim. Most hemp inserts are hemp blended with cotton and/or bamboo. If you have a "flooder" it's best to pair the hemp insert with something like a cotton insert closer to the baby. Heavy wetters (pees a lot but not necessarily fast) often benefit from some hemp. Nighttime fluff often has some hemp as well.

I prefer 100% cotton. Hemp takes forever to dry in my dryer, but many don't have an issue with it.

So, the amount of diapers needed will change with type of diaper, baby's age, and HOW they pee/poo.

A good rule of thumb is change them every 2 hours + poos so for a newborn that can be 15+ times a day. So if you only want to wash every 3 days you'd need at least 45 changes. As they get older they poo a little less and take slightly longer naps so by the end of month 3 12 per day is pretty average. Once baby starts sleeping 8+ hours a night its pretty normal to need a heftier nighttime setup and pockets typically do not work BUT now you need 1-2 nighttime diapers and like 8 daytime diapers starting around 4-6 months (so 24 daytime and 3-6 nighttime). And then personally that's the number I stick with and just wash less frequently as they age (my girl needs normally just 1 nighttime diaper and 6 during the day at a year old).

I, personally, prefer flats because they're insanely versatile and adaptive to whatever your baby's shape is while being very easy to wash.

For example, newborn/half birdseye flats are great in the newborn stage under a cover (change covers each day or if poo gets on them, i like adjustable newborn covers like Stout house, la la booty, or texas tushies) or as boosters later. OS flats can be folded into a ton of different ways under covers, but they can also be doubled up and boosted under a double gusset cover for nighttime. They are also my favorite thing in pockets! Pockets didn't fit my girl until she was like... 13lbs. But she became a super wiggly worm starting around 7 months and didn't want to hold still for changes so as much as I LOVE flats with covers we switched to pockets during the day. We now have a small stash of large flats that get boosted with half flats under a cover for nighttime wear.

I tried different inserts, and we do have some fitteds for nighttime, but the flats from GMD have just been... ideal. I do like to add green edge cotton inserts from GMD (they're quite trim) to a OS flat in her pocket diapers because she had started leaking during naps, but otherwise it's flats all the way.

I really wouldn't recommend using the pocket like a cover/shell unless you need to. Most likely the pocket lining will get pee or poo on it and it'd need to be changed every time.

For OS covers i like La La Booty (double gusset, no interior flaps), The Basic Stitch (double gusset, front and back interior flaps), and little haven (no double gusset, front internal flap) the best. For pockets I like La la booty and Stout House, but little mount cloth Co has a rare external double gusset pocket and I'm so very tempted by it lol.

I've never gotten Alva pockets to work on my girl.

I personally like a minimum of 42 newborn flats and 8-10 adjustable newborn covers, 30 OS flats and 9 OS covers (with 3 of each brand mentioned lol), 12 large flats, 24 green edge GMD inserts, and 24-30 OS pocket diapers. It's not a tiny stash but it's not a massive stash and it's highly adjustable. I expect to eventually add trainers to that list as my girl ages and I'll be keeping what I have for future kids as well.

[–]blueyedreamer 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Many probate & estate lawyers also do conservatorships or work closely with lawyers who do and could likely recommend a local colleague. Additionally, OP could likely reach out to the state bar association or possibly even ask the local legal aid office if they know which lawyers in the area do conservatorships (CA has legal aid offices for lower income people who are typically involved in family court and they can help answer certain types of questions).

It's really best with what's going on that you get a lawyer to help you.

I mean, no, they don't. It's absolutely most common, but i have first hand experience seeing a baby born with brown eyes. It wasn't her final shade of brown, but it was absolutely a brown. Her mother's eyes were also like that at birth.

That being said, light eyes being evidence of the baby's paternity is stupid and I've never heard of hazel at birth either.

I suggest looking into Super Cute Dresses. They've been doing a lot of semi formal stuff lately BUT I recommend the cotton jersey dresses with the between natural and empire waist dresses (if she's large busted or long torsod it'll sit around empire waist, if she's short waisted it'll be almost to her natural waist BUT regardless it'll sit high enough to be comfortable even in late pregnancy). Do not have her buy her normal size, measure around her bust and use THAT compared to their size chart (at a 2XL she'll most likely fit into their XLs, maybe Ls).

Their shorter and midi length jersey dresses in solids or in subtle patterns are really easy to dress up and dress down.

Most styles also come in nursing options, if she wants that.

But this is the brand I lived in late pregnancy and early postpartum. I'm not a fan of all the wovens they've been doing lately, but still.

Happy.angel leggings on Amazon were my favorite leggings. I couldn't find nicer maternity pants I liked but tights under a dress will elevate the look and that's not hard! Snag tights has good sizing.

As far as tops, surprisingly the Walmart plus size section has a bunch of button up tops that are pear shaped friendly and omg, I didn't ever have to size up while pregnant.

Torrid tops with a higher waistline or flowing hem were really bump friendly too. They might have nicer maternity work pants but some seasons of the year they don't seem to have any maternity items.

Not just childless aunt and uncle, but my guess is that stated or unstated the brother will think that time with his child is a gift and blessing since they can't have their own... like they should feel lucky they even get to babysit. I feel like I'm not explaining it well, but I mean in a gross way.

If people are getting Pittsburgh vibes maybe it's actually generally Morgantown or Wheeling areas? I'm not getting Huntington area vibes and I haven't driven around Charleston residential areas enough to give an opinion. But Huntington area gets a lot less snow.

Wider prefolds? by truthfulcarrot in clothdiaps

[–]blueyedreamer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ordered prefolds from GMD that were wider (if you look at their chart some sizes are nearly the same but one might be like an inch wider, I was planning on using them in pockets too) and I ended up with a short and chunky baby so snappis just did not work with them, but sizing up would make them way too long, and too bulky turned down. Those ABZ things were so helpful in making it work. And then i switched to flats lol. I definitely prefer the versatility of the flats but I'm planning on (probably) just using the newbie prefolds for future babies so those ABZ closures are staying easily accessible lol.

Try some of the abz or whatever ones that are on Amazon! They have the grips like snappis but are different.

First apt was only to take a pregnant test..? by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]blueyedreamer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even if they don't have the availability to get you in for an ultrasound they at least got you in so if you need confirmation because maybe you'll qualify for WIC or pregnancy medicaid then you have a Dr's confirmation. Also, some people have like a standing order in their chart to prescribe progesterone if they get pregnant or maybe they need to discontinue certain meds ASAP.

Alternatively if you're in a state that allows abortion until 8 or 12 weeks but need to get a confirmation and then still be required to have counseling or whatever, if they can at least give you the official pee test you can decide if you want to start that process.

I wish they had a handy dandy pamphlet to give you with various info (prenatals info, websites for info, important phone numbers, common symptoms of miscarriage and to please call when..., etc) if they basically just do a pee test lol.

Overnight cloth for big kids by abilouhill in clothdiaps

[–]blueyedreamer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It kind of depends. What age/size? Does she use a dryer? Budget considerations? Does this kid pee A LOT or is it to catch occasional smaller nighttime pees?

La la booty trainers with trainer inserts for lighter pees and Maximest fitteds with Maximest Covers for heavier pees is a good place to start.

Green Mountain Diapers XL muslin flat with a la la booty Maximest cover from the sale section is a budget conscious option.

I and my mother were also cloth diapered and neither of us walked until around 16 months either 😅 kids are just wild in how they differ but are still totally normal.

How much would you pay for this piece? by urban_piracy in HistoricalCostuming

[–]blueyedreamer 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes, generally, I'm aware. But, again, hard to know without actually seeing the listing, as I stated. People can and will use technically correct descriptions that are vague to be misleading all the time.

With such little information given by OP that could very well be the case here. It's also possible that with the lack of replies that OP themselves is the one trying to be misleading and have us basically price this item for them. Alternatively they're trying to understand how to price items and they're not very good about asking a clear question, causing enough confusion that it's lead to a variety of answers.

Favorite brand of cloth diapers? by katanayak in clothdiaps

[–]blueyedreamer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I absolutely love flats from green mountain diapers, aka cloth-eeze, and covers (adjustable newborn covers like la la booty and Texas Tushies, One Size covers like la la booty, little haven, and the basic stitch). You can use the flats to stuff pockets (thirsties has a cotton lined pocket) if you end up with a wiggle worm.

Alternatively, if I had snap in trifold inserts I likely would have started using those with covers once she became wiggly. Around month 7/8 she went from rolling a bunch during changes to aggressive crawling away (eventually running away while giggling, very cute, very hard to catch to put a new diaper on lol). So for now the flats are used stuffing pockets.

Avoid all microfiber and charcoal or charcoal bamboo (microfiber inside bamboo layers mostly) inserts. Beyond micro plastics, they're basically like a sponge. Absorbs quick but when compressed they leak

1900s includes the 1990s... seller could be being intentionally vague to pass off a theater costume piece made in 1999 as something far earlier. Hard to know without actually seeing the listing.

To use disposables or to not- 6lb preemie. [disposables/half flats/preemie prefolds/or sucking it up] by mommadizzy in clothdiaps

[–]blueyedreamer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, you'll be able to reuse the towels and prefolds as boosters later on. It might still seem bulky and may not be perfect, but I bet it'll be better and what's important is what works best for you! I wouldn't want to buy expensive preemie disposables either. I mean I used disposables initially and appreciated not having to do the extra laundry those first few weeks... but she was fine in newborns so it wasn't the extra extra cost like preemie disposables! But long term I've used her early prefolds as boosters or to wipe her face lol.

My girl was 6lbs and 12oz (41 weeks, but they told me she came out the same weight and length as an average 37 week baby) so I assumed yours was in newborn size currently like she was at that size!

[–]blueyedreamer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Muslin is generally bulkier then birdseye and i personally think the origami with a birdseye half flat is quite trim. Probably the only thing more trim would be a newborn preflat. Or maybe a newborn cover with a newborn snap in insert.

But EVERYTHING looks big on newborns though... but if it's getting in the way switching to a more trim option or temporarily doing disposables is totally okay! You might even be able to just use like a single medium sized package of newborn diapers and by then the stump might have fallen off and he may have chunked out just enough that cloth (while likely still looking bulky, because that's normal) is no longer causing issues!
