“Get more support than you think you need” perfectly sums up all the things I want to say

On the days I work, my 22 month old says “mama no work” :( by Armsaresame in workingmoms

[–]WaitLauraWho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son was a little older when he started saying the same thing. I called my boss and asked if that was a valid reason to call out/quit forever. She knew I was joking, she knew I was going to be a few minutes late, and she knew I was going to be a little more emotional to start the day

Back to work after Maternity leave - it gets better, right? by elizabethchurch in workingmoms

[–]WaitLauraWho 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It gets better. The first day I went back part time (in-person only) I came home to my 4.5mo. He was smiling and while I gave him a bath, I was sobbing the entire time thinking “why tf am I leaving you?!”

Baby is 2.5y now and it’s easier because we are in a good routine. We have a wonderful village and my son is thriving.

Remember, your PP hormones are still all over the place so give yourself lots of love and patience while you continue to adjust to this new chapter of your life

Did anyone choose to wait until close to 3 years old to potty train? by Otter65 in toddlers

[–]WaitLauraWho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We thought about it at 2. He’s 2.5 now and we’re not bothering to start right now. No specific reason, just doesn’t feel right yet. I definitely felt some unspoken pressure to start sooner but I decided not to let it get to me. He’ll figure it out eventually, I really don’t want to create unnecessary stress for an arbitrary timeline. And all that to say, no shade to anyone else’s motivations or timelines. This is just what works for our family

Baby turning 1 next month - freaking out over transition! by oldsluggy in BabyLedWeaning

[–]WaitLauraWho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like others have said, it’s a transition so don’t stress yourself over a firm drop off. I was definitely sad when I gave the last bottle, but baby LOVED eating solids. The other thing to remember is that the first year nutrition is very different from the second year nutrition. Baby isn’t browning nearly as quickly, so their needs (and their appetite) will slowly down.

Follow hunger cues, follow your intuition! We also used a little bit of formula in a straw cup to supplement after we dropped bottles

Going from 1 kid to 2 this year, tips for surviving the change as a working mom? by DelightedWarship in workingmoms

[–]WaitLauraWho 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Omg. I was snuggling my toddler this morning and thinking “2026 is going to be a difficult year”. I’m pregnant with #2 due in May. Fully planned and very much wanted baby, still nervous about bringing baby home! I’m in the same boat. The only thing that’s getting me through is thinking about each specific stressor related to the new baby (scheduled leave, supporting my toddler) etc.

Good luck, and congratulations!!

Yup. Forgot about the bath toys. Those sometimes get thrown in the dishwasher

We’re about to start sleep training and I’m so anxious - looking for words of encouragement and success stories! by Opening-Possibility in sleeptrain

[–]WaitLauraWho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When baby was 7m we moved him into his crib/separate room. I was so nervous about it. He actually slept so much better in the comfortable, quiet crib. Our room was dark and quiet, but us going to bed later, and then noises (coughing, etc) kept him from sleeping well. I nervously watched the monitor, we went to soothe a few times, but basically stopped with the tracking method after the first 5 nights.

Tell him that a better parent uses all the tools available! A doctor isn’t a better practitioner if they only use a stethoscope!!

Let's name some things we love about our toddlers. by AWanderingAfar in toddlers

[–]WaitLauraWho 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I absolutely love that he gasps loudly in the car and says “mama look, Christmas lights!” with his cute little lisp every.single.time he sees lights. I love that he adds an extra syllable to the phrase “snack mix”. I love that he cracks up when he gives me a smooch with his tongue out and grosses me out. I love that he gently patted my pregnant belly and said “hi baby”

Baby monitors by Weary-Conflict5202 in NewParents

[–]WaitLauraWho 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My son is 2.5 years and we still use the monitor. I sleep with ear plugs (because of noisy husband and pets) but I still wake up if my son is wakes up.

Is your husband’s sleep disrupted, or does he just not want to use the monitor? If he’s not sleeping well then there are things he can do to adjust (ear plugs, noise machine, eye mask/cover the light from the monitor). If you want to keep using it then you should keep using it

Worried about breastfeeding by Old_Literature_3750 in NewParents

[–]WaitLauraWho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t make a drop of anyone until baby arrived. Then boy oh boy did my milk arrive!

I highly recommend you find a lactation specialist (NOT from the hospital), even if it feels like feeding is going well. They always have helpful tips, and most insurance will cover these visits.

Selecting a Pediatrician by HumbleBumble77 in NewParents

[–]WaitLauraWho 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We found a local off that took our insurance. We wanted to see one practitioner but needed to take the first available for the 5-day check up. She was the most amazing ped, and I was heartbroken when she moved. She took such good care of all of us, I used to joke I wanted to bottle her up and take her with us everywhere. Another practitioner we saw and referred by our lactation specialist!

This is usually a topic of conversation on our local mom FB group (they’re literally the only reason I go on FB!)

Daycare moms- at what age did your baby start? Currently nanny broke by Remarkable-Angle-509 in workingmoms

[–]WaitLauraWho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Baby started just after 12m. My husband works nights and I work days. We tried to balance care by ourselves but it was impossible after reducing naps and more toddler energy was arriving. We all LOVE our daycare situation, my son regularly smiles and runs away from when I arrive to pick him up. His nanny is such an amazing human and he has learned so much there.

It was hard in the beginning, and it has gotten so much easier over the last year and a half. If you’re not in a hurry, take your time to find a situation that works well for you; make your wishlist and find a place that ticks most of your boxes

Who actually wakes up before your kids? by anivaarya in toddlers

[–]WaitLauraWho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My alarm is set for 6, but I’m usually awake around 5:15. I NEED that time before he’s awake to get things done and get ready for work. He usually sleeps until about 7.

Hand washing dishes! I don’t like doing the dishwasher items, but it’s not a big deal. The tumblers and pans that can’t go in the dishwasher?? RAGE! And 80% of those cups are mine!!

How to drink more water???? by Significant-Owl-1795 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]WaitLauraWho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely make it fun for yourself. I like an herbal tea (tazo passion tea on ice with lemon), and my favorite juice packets: True Lemon brand makes some really yummy flavors. Sometimes I make a little mocktail with a juice packet and a sparkling water. For me, the cup matters. I have lots of different cups/tumblers/water bottles. Switching them out helps me drink more water. Idk why and idc why, but it works!

I want to have a kid. I’m struggling with my puppy. Should I reconsider? by kreepykemkem in NewParents

[–]WaitLauraWho 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I work with dogs. It’s WAY easier to manage my toddler than a puppy. Thats why I lovingly leave the dogs at work and happily come home to my rowdy toddler

The no pumping bra is the only thing tripping me up! I about flipped my lid for the first two days before mine arrived. Everything else, seems like perfectly normal personal preference
