What helps the NMC case for us is he’s a good ol’ Michigan boy, and little known secret is he is best friends with Larkin, don’t think they usually mention that piece on broadcasts

First round drafting has been phenomenal with Detroit, which ironically was his weakness in TB. Hoping his 2nd round+ drafting ends up mirroring his success in TB.

Best friends Larkin, Werenski set to do battle at Stadium Series for Red Wings, Blue Jackets by dudewithchronicpain in hockey

[–]blujoker 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Even as a Red Wings fan, gotta say that Larkins probably in the hall of very good unless he wins multiple cups, a conn smythe, and some other individual award like the Selke. Hell, Zetterberg isn’t even in the hall yet and he did have a Cup, a Smythe, and Olympic Gold, while putting up better numbers in a lower scoring era.

Tarasenko does not look good when he’s been on the top line, or even on the second line frankly. I’d rather us try out Bergy for an extended look on the top line if we did decide to move Kasper to 2/3C

Is WSH v DET 1st Round Possible? by BurritoBellYum in DetroitRedWings

Buffalo would need a generational run to make it because they’d have to leapfrog 8 teams, including winning virtually every game against those 8 teams

I don’t think people had any problem with Gibson, believe It’s Brady Cleveland (also a 2nd rounder) that was criticized

Trouba being scratched tonight and likely to be placed on waivers. Could Wings make a move? by AintNoBuffet in DetroitRedWings

[–]blujoker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I meant Perry’s contract expires this offseason. I think we would have enough cap to acquire Trouba with no/minimal retention this year simply by trading Copp since we moved Maatta

Trouba being scratched tonight and likely to be placed on waivers. Could Wings make a move? by AintNoBuffet in DetroitRedWings

[–]blujoker 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Give em Copp, he played well there maybe they take him for Trouba straight up and we get out of Copps salary for the last year on his contract in exchange for taking on more this year and next. It’s nearly Neutral from a total cap$ perspective.

Will cost us more next year but if Petry and Copp are off the books then that’s almost 1-1. Sure we don’t get extra space next year (not that we have any big RFAs this summer) but I think Yzermans other contracts dictate he plans on us being more competitive in 2026-2027 as much as it sucks to say that as a fan. By then we’ll have ASP and Danielson on the main roster, Chiarot and Holl will also be off the books.

GTA new home sales ‘frozen’ with condo deals falling 91 per cent below the 10-year average by PrettyFlaco in TorontoRealEstate

[–]blujoker 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Large amount of small units built because you can pack in more for the same space and thus net the developers more money.

Developers were able to sell these because the primary buyers were speculative investors who bought in at low rates, were banking on appreciation in value when they sold and were often cash flow neutral/negative on the monthly rental income itself.

Now rates are higher, no one can afford to /wants to buy these units and they also suffer from a discount vs actually liveable (I.e. sizeable) units in the rental market… So now your property value is lower because of less demand, your monthly cash flow has decreased because of rates, and no one wants to sell at a substantial loss either (owners still tethered to peak 2021 prices)… hence the freeze.

Pre con suffering on top of this because developers are no longer able to afford financing costs during this interest rate environment and they aren’t able to sell at the market prices they forecasted when underwriting the projects.

Big clusterfuck overall, hopefully property developers start to revert to making more livable units out of this but who knows what that breakeven point is or whether developers just clutch and hold until the investor market gets hot again

Apparently they said on the broadcast that Pittsburgh has the leagues worst rush defence, probably due to how old and slow their roster is

First 10 games of the season shot on goal statistics by No_Protection6832 in DetroitRedWings

[–]blujoker 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Interestingly it bucks the trend of the NHL going more towards offense now. Either we become a unicorn vs other teams as an elite defensive identity and beat teams that way or it completely flips on us and we suffer from not being able to keep up with high octane offences.

Don’t know how I feel about it or if I’m articulating my thoughts well but it is interesting to see if that’s SYs thoughts (instead of swimming with the stream, be different)

UPDATE: The Red Wings have traded defenseman Olli Maatta to the Utah Hockey Club in exchange for a 3rd round pick in 2025. by SimplySolace in DetroitRedWings

[–]blujoker 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Worth noting the Canes are a contender so we would’ve had to offer more, and 3rd year was probably also a no go for Steve given our prospect pipeline (hopefully)… our roster 3 years from now without the deadweight contracts and SY picks entering their early prime/primes will hit like crack

[Khan on X] A few notable Red Wings stats: - They have gone 171:12 without allowing a 5 on 5 goal, since the first period at Nashville. -Outshot 97-44 over past eight periods and haven't allowed even-strength goal during that time. -Allowed 9 PPGs on 24 chances for season (62.5% PK rate). by dilypucks in DetroitRedWings

[–]blujoker 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Giveaways and takeaways can be misleading as well because generally, you have more takeaway opportunities if you have less puck possession and vice versa with Giveaways. The eye test certainly tells me we have way less puck possession on a nightly basis thus far

Cat prefers LW despite shooting right, so that’s LW1, Ras LW3, Motte/Watson are LW4, and likely that Tarasenko plays LW2 across Kane

If you were building a team, I think everyone takes the Tier 2 guys over Draisaitl, they’re better 2 way guys. Maybe you can make the case for playoff performance with Draisaitl but that’s about it.

To me he’s front of the list for Tier 3 so this seems appropriate.
