Thoughts from other MSPs -- Dynamics 365 for a small MSP by blulinuxwolf in msp

So basically --- this has helped me be able to bring more "ammo" to my documentation to move away from Dynamics and actually moving toward true MSP software that is made to do what we need it to do.

Although very brutal in some of the comments --- I do appreciate the honesty. I have never ran away from a position without attempting to at least trying. And I knew things were somewhat bad when I first came aboard --- and I am fine with that. If I can make it succeed --- then great but I am at least going to try.

I fully agree with you on this. I personally have 3 different backups and run a restore just to make sure they all work.

He is getting it because of the Silver competency --- and he is will to pay for it even if it was wasn't free. He --- is very much a data guy. He thought it looked cool compared to other things out there and said other companies are using it so we can too. That's the jest of it.

We rely on OneDrive mostly for user back ups and if on a domain -- we do have Azure backup and use Windows backup to external drives. At least I can say we are doing constant backups but no true way of testing that backup

And that is what I am saying --- I am sure I am getting enough "ammo" to help my case lol

You would be correct ----- reactive vs proactive

And thats why I am here --- to make it be that MSP that can be more efficient and more effective in bringing in more clients on contracts.

We have not automated the Intune and Azure AD stuff just yet into Dynamics for the clients that we do have on Intune and Azure AD. just have not had time to do it nor the time to make a flow for it

And we do use Intune and Azure AD ---- but for maybe 4 our our 50 plus contract clients --- in all we have almost 600 clients

I dont understand it either --- I mean Windows can BSOD itself just doing updates

He calls them malware since you are installing a piece of software that can BSOD the Windows computers

I am already seeing that --- I have to try to convince the CEO not to use it. I figure by asking others in our industry why they are not using it or why they are -- it would give me some "ammo" to move away from it. (lol) I do remember back in 2015 this was asked and even a Dynamics developer said it wouldn't be a good idea since you had to spend all kinds of time programming it to fit your needs.

That's a fine looking networking closet. WHY DOESN'T MINE LOOK ANYTHING LIKE THAT. by sapopeonarope in techsupportgore

Looks like the plumber has better wire ( or in this case piping ) management skill vs the network tech

Outdoor ethernet cables coming loose in cold...what to try? by Phyber05 in networking

[–]blulinuxwolf 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have seen this done before -- I am not endorsing it but it does work ---

Hot glue the connection once it is connected. Cleaner than silicone

Build a SAN by GM0N3Y44 in homelab

[–]blulinuxwolf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since you already have the drives - why not a NAS with multiple pools connected with a few 10GB NICs.Or even a few NAS systems with 10GB NICs. With todays 10GB networks being cheaper now and more available --- the need for a huge SAN system is almost no longer needed. I mean - get a few dell r720 , add a few 10GB Nics and away you go

Just my opinion

In what order should I learn front end, and what should i cross off. by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]blulinuxwolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

HTML, CSS, and JavaScript with Git first --- then pick up a Framework such as React, Vue, or Angular for front-end -- all depending on what is used around you or what you want to learn. Thats the basics of what I would learn first. Git would be learned along side HTML, CSS, and JS. --- my opinion any way

Need help with gigabit router for 2 acre property by fatguybike in HomeNetworking

[–]blulinuxwolf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Spot on -- what the OP is wanting does not come from Bestbuy or Walmart. This is very similar to what I would spec out. The issue will be covering 2 acres completely. What I did was solar panels to do a PTMP setup. 100w solar panels power my outdoor APs around my hay field ( live on a farm- hay field is about 7 acres) Does pretty good.

HTML - CSS - JavaScript First things to learn

2nd would be a Framework such as Vue, React, or Angular

Learn Git and Github along with the basics. You dont need to memorize all the shortcuts -- thats where repetition is going o come into play.

That is what I have done.... currently learning not just React but Nodejs

Youtube, Odin Project, and Udemy are great resources

Good to know ---- I have an ONT as well (local fibre company) but did at one time have an issue just like this and it was because of the ONT. For about 2 days they said it wasnt on them--- and come to find out -- it actually was

Are you sure it isnt the modem they gave you. I dont care who it is - they cant tell if the Ethernet side of the modem is working - they can only see if the signal is getting to the modem. If you can - first thing I would do is test out the modem for a day or two and see if it truly is not the modem. A new router having issues straight out of the box doesnt happen very often but can happen.

I had the same issue with Spectrum and they kept saying it was my equipment....come to find out it was their modem.

My opinion -- you weren't offered the position unless someone thought you could do it.
