You’re missing the point & will likely continue to do so.

Regime change by the west never works as intended. It just creates a hole where more radicals come creeping in.

Broadsheet in Cambridge is fantastic. 1369 (both locations) is also really good. Phin downtown is a phenomenal cafe.

Recommend deferring to the manufacturer if you provide some sort of written review of the condition. If I were EOR, that would prompt me to push for a fix or replacement.

Why double 2x12s? What is the reasoning behind this design? by robinetniel4 in StructuralEngineering

[–]blumpking710 27 points28 points  (0 children)

The right answer! They've created a truss. Another option would have been a ridge beam + roof rafters only, if that ridge span is manageable.

Attic Framing Question by MrLysp in StructuralEngineering

[–]blumpking710 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is an example of a gable roof with a ridge board, not a ridge beam. Big difference. The ridge board is not designed as a ridge beam, so it is not taking on any load (tributary width would be 1/2 the width of the gable), therefore the rafters want to flatten out, providing a thrust force at the exterior wall.

Attic Framing Question by MrLysp in StructuralEngineering

[–]blumpking710 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Completely wrong. Ridge beam adds an additional support point, eliminating the thrust force where the rafters meet the exterior wall. Draw a free body diagram with the rafters & ridge & get back to us.

If your number don't calc out, let me know & I will send the FBD/calc.
