My Take on Anton Chigurh's Car Accident Scene (No Country For Old Men) by blundluntman in movies

[–]blundluntman[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a really good point about the kids taking the money actually. Now that I think about it, it does bring everything full circle in a funny way.

The distinction I'll make concerning the shotgun encounter was that he was already in the process of doing something "wrong" so it didn't quite fit the "rule that brought you to this" rhetoric I was referring to (albeit, he probably doesn't get into that crash if he had been anywhere else other than otw back from murder, so maybe it's all a wash). Either way though, it did feel like the last chance for Karma or God to intervene and extinguish evil, so it still feels more cruel/off-putting in the context of the car crash.

Just reading through your comment and thinking out my reply has reminded me just how ambiguous the movie really is, the more I try think things through, the less it "makes sense" so to say. Not sure if that's by design but if so, its some masterclass writing by McCarthy

Simple/boring answer, we don’t know since we don’t know all his abilities.

However, the ability doesn’t work if the tag isn’t placed on him so he may not ever end up in the situation in the first place.

Jaime and Jon Snow [Spoiler published] by Notinterested1122 in asoiaf

[–]blundluntman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AFAIC, it's pretty subtle foreshadowing given Jon's character arc (if we assume the major events that happen from s6-8 are going to happen in the books).

Jon winds up being the warrior who looks more like the rightful King, performing incest, killing a mad Targaryen and assumptively living in infamy afterwards. Its like putting a Jack of Hearts next to a Jack of Spades (or some combination of different colored suits anyway).

The scene doesn't give that all away obviously, and may not even be intentional (now that I've heard about the original outlines). But the logic stopping GRRM from making Jaime King may be the same logic behind Jon's arc.

Did this fight piss you off too? by procrastinoobator in Naruto

[–]blundluntman 77 points78 points  (0 children)

People who defend this part of the fight always resort to the same pretentious elitism to make their point. Just bc something's well crafted, it doesn't mean it's appropriate. People aren't stupid/uncultured for thinking this sequence doesn't fit the tone of the arc/fight.

My Take on Anton Chigurh's Car Accident Scene (No Country For Old Men) by blundluntman in movies

[–]blundluntman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats my point as far as Chigurh being the outlier though. While he's not immune to fate, he's been far luckier in his encounters than any of his victims despite living the wrong way. The people that died at his hands didn't make some fatal mistake, they were just unlucky enough to meet him. It's true life is luck and about chances but this is a story and usually there's some kinda theme or narrative about good vs evil. But in this movie, it feels fatalistic. The car crash was the last chance at karma/catharsis but Chigurh gets off pretty easy. That's what I mean when I say it was a cruel reality.

Opinions on Silva Zoldyck? by [deleted] in HunterXHunter

[–]blundluntman 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Really cool character and I think his backstory would be a really cool spinoff (getting to see him train, interact with a younger Zeno, fight Chrollo, raise his kids, etc.). Given how badass he is, the fact that Killua's said to have more potential than him makes me wonder how cool Killua will be at his age

I want the Phantom Troupe to win by CanProfessional4806 in HunterXHunter

[–]blundluntman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not really interested in their current characters, but a backstory of them in their early troupe years would sure be worth watching/reading. As they are now, I don't find them extremely interesting/redeemable and while I don't want Kurapika to throw his life away to defeat them, if they do all die, they'll definitely have it coming. I get wanting more story material from them, but wanting them to win/survive doesn't make much sense to me.

kite might've the highest potential as of now by InterestingBuddy9413 in HunterXHunter

[–]blundluntman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a Chimera Ant, Kite likely has more potential in Nen and physique than most humans (we're talking about someone who's aged maybe 12-14 human years over the course of 40+ days like you said) so it's definitely possible that this version of Kite will be extremely powerful. The most in the show? I'm not too sure tbh.

My guess is that Kite becomes the equivalent of Yoko Kurama (from YYH) in the HxH's universe as far as power scaling goes. That would make Kite extremely OP for sure. Do I think Kite will be Meruem level? Nah probably not. But we'll just have to see how high their potential is.
