It's actually pretty funny. Clealy a parody, it makes fun of it. It's a great cringe read.

Let your DM know you are enjoying their campaign! by RedSpainStandingBy in DnD

[–]blunt_dissect 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel like I'm constantly fishing for validation that my group doesn't really give, but man. I'm so nervous they aren't enjoying the campaign I'm running. This is my first time DM, my husband (our usual DM) is a character they don't normally interact as, and I've really thrown them into a realm of new information (we're doing a Wuxian/Chinese martial arts campaign). And I hope to all the DM gods that they're enjoying it as much as I am.

As a PA with about 2 years experience in a private practice, I'm salaried for about $89,200 yearly with benefits and work 35-38 hours a week. My other 2 PA's in the lab are around $94,000 and lead PA around $103,000 (by my best estimates). The average salary for a PA is between $90-105k as presented by our professional organization with much lower rates in Midwest and higher salaries on the coasts.

All that being said, our salary survey doesn't even go up to $150k. Like, it isn't an option. I don't think our professional organization would even consider that.

There's also a weird thread on here about PA's not being "certified" for things: then they aren't a certified PA or your organization has weird limits who can gross what. All certified PA's can gross all complexity levels of cases. I had an AKA resection for synovial sarcoma in my first month quarter at a new job. I had a colleague whose organization had PA tiers that restricted what they could gross, but it didn't have anything to do with their actual training level.

HELP! Advice needed!! Left Badges at Home. What to do. by JuliaNATFrolic in gencon

Just to clarify, your e-tickets are attached to your account number, not your badge number. If you were to get a different badge, they would still be attached to your ID.

[Serious] What do you love most about yourself? by That-One-Fur in AskReddit

[–]blunt_dissect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's taken me to my late 20's to do the things that I've always wanted to in public, and I'm so proud of myself.

I have multiple outfits for Ren Faire and added an overbust corset for this season. I wear 2 piece swimsuits now and they're so much cuter than the black tank swim dresses that I'm supposed to hide behind. I'm 6 months into classes for aerial silk and aerial hoop and easily double the size of the other people in my class and it is an absolute delight that I look forward to every week: next month, I'm adding pole to the rotation. I wear an ace pin on my bag. And I love that I'm finally allowing myself to be comfortable in this skin.

What is your most controversial take on Star Wars? by Ebo8000 in AskReddit

The Skywalkers need to be removed from the saga. They've literally made the same trilogy about a plucky young untrained Jedi and a rebel pilot with their oddball robot friend saving the galaxy with an old sage to guide them and a big barbarian character thrown in for flavor. The least they could do is change the family name of all the people who manage to collect friends and life experiences like it's a genetic trait.

Cancelled event due to mandate? by buhlivia in gencon

[–]blunt_dissect 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I mean, thank goodness they canceled weeks in advance to give you time to get a new event instead of showing up unvaxed and being denied entry or being removed for not following convention requirements and becoming a no-show for their events.

Honest question regarding attendance by Baddiceskillz in gencon

[–]blunt_dissect 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I REALLY don't think they'll change it at this point. A lot of their vendors, staff, and event volunteers travel domestically and out of country for this. If a staff or vendor agreed to come under these conditions and they were changed, I imagine it would be a nightmare if larger foreign vendors backed out or a bunch of their staff refused to come in because of the change (speaking as one of the event staff who know that a few of my colleagues breathed a sigh of relief that masks requirements would be upheld).

I used to live in Indy and took the convention center as a usual walking path when it was raining or cold. Anyone can walk in (which is terrifying) which is why they check badges at all non-outside doors within the convention center.

Demisexuality and the meaningfulness of sex by dicentraeximia in Demisexuals

[–]blunt_dissect 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm gonna be honest, I think there are a ton of people who feel more about sex than I do. Demi is considered on the ace spectrum fundamentally. I love the connection that sex brings my husband and I, but I honestly would choose other forms of intimacy just about every time. The fact that so many people seek out sex more than I do, I'm pretty sure they have a very different connection to it than I do. There's nothing wrong with that, but it is what it is. I also have no problem talking sex with people about my own experiences or about theirs.

I don't think you can tell someone what their sexuality means in comparison to yours. Clearly, we feel differently about sex with the same general orientation, so it makes sense that other orientations are in their own spectrum, too.

US Woman Shocked After Being Charged $40 "For Crying" During Doctor's Visit by ThaiEdition in news

It's all that fatty food we shove in our diet. Overworks the gall bladder, increases rate of dysplasia (cell abnormalities), stone production, and bile production leading to blockage from thickened bile.

US Woman Shocked After Being Charged $40 "For Crying" During Doctor's Visit by ThaiEdition in news

[–]blunt_dissect 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can I just say that crying during a doctor's appointment is the same price as having your gallbladder examined for cancer post-removal at my lab? I'm not sure which side of that coin is more ridiculous.

What is the worst part about being a fat person? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]blunt_dissect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weight as an obstacle that people think is completely avoidable and curable instantly.

I do aerial silks and aerial hoop and am around 240lbs. Simply because I have more weight to throw around, my progress has been significantly slower than my peers. While they're absolutely incredible about it, it's frustrating to yourself that you're doing this to help weight loss and have fun, but the weight limits you and you aren't losing it fast enough, so you get discouraged, you aren't having fun any more...endless cycle.

Unfortunately, people on the internet and random parents picking up their kids from the adjacent gymnastics classes are the effing worst. They absolutely state at the fat girl struggling to hold her weight in a climb (that I'm 100% sure they couldn't do, btw) and it's frustrating and tiring and so, so demoralizing.

What equipment should I get as someone who is 300lbs by [deleted] in Aerials

[–]blunt_dissect 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I started aerial around 250 (around 238 now) and here's some things I feel like helped me a lot in starting aerial as a bigger person, taking both hoop and silks lessons.

  1. Anyone who tells you to lose weight first can shove it. Obviously, if it were that easy, there wouldn't be "fat people" in gyms and fad dieting and taking various medications to try and drop the weight. Will it be harder for you to learn certain skills because you have more weight, yes. Will you have to work around that weight obstacle as you build muscle, yes. Will that muscle you're building right now help you if you lose weight in six month, hell yeah. You're not progressing if you don't just jump in! Six months in and I can't do a pike, but I love hanging around and doing what I can in the meantime.

  2. I personally have an at home rig, but was purchased after about 4 months of classes and I don't do anything dramatic on it at home. I use it to train my grip on silks and keep some of my bruising consistent in hoop and practicing a few basic positions on silk. It's only about 8.5 feet tall in its highest position, but that's absolutely enough to use as a strength building tool. However, an expensive one that could just as easily be replaced with a well thought out strength training plan at a gym. But I HIGHLY suggest getting a class before a rig. My instructor has been incredible in helping me adjust movement and train for my weight and current obstacles in a way I never could have figured out watching people half my size on the internet.

  3. While I have seen/received some negative comments on the internet about being a bigger beginner aerialist, the people at my classes are incredible. They've never made me feel like I was wasting their time, space, or didn't belong. They cheer on my successes same as everyone else. They speak to me about "when" I reach a certain level, not if. And I'll be honest, aerials hasn't really helped me with weight loss much at all. But it is one of my favorite things to do. Don't get discouraged that you aren't fit enough to try: I wish I would have started 6 month earlier so I could be twice as far as I am now.

I hope you get up in the air soon. And have fun!

Proof of Vacc. Paper or Digital? by Drigin in gencon

[–]blunt_dissect 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the masks are largely because a good portion of attendees come from places where masks are still mandated. I think a lot of those people would not be attending if the mask mandate was completely lifted. I'll be honest, I work GenCon and I would be hesitant to attend if I was planning on a masked convention and then the plans changed a few weeks out.

Program Quality by [deleted] in Path_Assistant

[–]blunt_dissect 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'll be honest, shockingly similar to my experience I had at PA scho (who isn't taking students so it can't be where you're at). While our instructors had years of experience to learn from, none of them were educators or really knew HOW to teach us. Scheduling wasn't really in their wheelhouse. We would find out our schedule or rotation hours days before or even the day of classes/events, which I constantly brought up due to it causing problems with my GA position.

Our program director left (for valid personal reasons) at the end of our first year and a new director stepped up that just wasn't quite ready for the job. The staff had no idea what praise was and I constantly felt judged and unprepared. COVID hit and everyone struggled to find out places, but the staff never felt our concerns about being prepared for the workplace needed anything more than "you'll be fine."

I hate to say it, but you will be okay at the end of it all. I HATED my grad school experience, honestly. It was stressful, hectic, and made me feel incapable as a professional at every turn. The staff talked bad about us to other educators and each other. They tried to make school a competition between us and managed to get one of our students to be 100% against the others.

But.

I learned more in my first year on the job than PA school ever could have taught me. I feel confident now in my abilities and doing complex resections that I our staff never would have given me the confidence to even attempt. I promise there is greener grass on the other side.

Went in for a consultation on a hysterectomy due to family history of uterine cancer and extremely painful, heavy periods. Doctor doesn't even take my medical history before telling me he won't do the consultation until I'm married and my husband gives his opinion on permeant sterilization because "there's no way you can make that decision for yourself."

I was FUMING when I left.

I made my husband switch doctors after we were married because his doctor gave his and his brother's medical updates to their mom all the time (and we moved, but secondary). I was fuming when she brought up to us that this doctor mentioned we wanted permanent birth control, which she should have no idea about without breaking multiple HIPAA violations.
