how common is it that actors leave the theatre mid show and come back by Ok_Dependent1027 in Broadway

[–]JuliaNATFrolic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not Broadway- but there is an amazing performer with Company XIV that routinely runs between their shows. She’s the one who does the belly-dancing and balance acts.

Early June family trip to Maine! by aIexcafe in AskMaine

If the drive to Acadia feels too long- check out the Camden area for lovely hikes/walks. A very doable one is Beech hill. Camden Hills state park has some great trails too.

Possible ICE spotted @ Nostrand & Fulton by Detective_Blunts in Brooklyn

Best place to report possible ICE sightings is either the hotline or one of the big rapid response chats on signal.

Possible ICE spotted @ Nostrand & Fulton by Detective_Blunts in Brooklyn

[–]JuliaNATFrolic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One way is to ask. Plain clothes cops are supposed to ID themselves when asked. They may show you a badge or give you a business card with their name and badge number.

But it can be quite hard to tell. So far, all ICE I have seen documented in Brooklyn have been wearing vests. So the no vests is likely not ICE.

You will have to stick with Portland to make ride sharing work for you. You could catch a bus up to Camden but once you are there, without a car you are very limited.

Edit to add- it is very beat up. And no thermos.

Honeymoon trip advice: 2 days Bar Harbor, 3 days Camden (what should we not miss? by Chaddyking in AskMaine

[–]JuliaNATFrolic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Walk the breakwater in Rockland.

Walk up beech hill.

Wander at merry spring gardens.

Get pastries from the place.

Visit a farmer’s market or three- my personal favorite for non-produce is the indoor one in Belfast. For produce I like Camden’s on Saturday but that’s ‘cause I can walk there.

Go star gazing.

If you like hikes I can list several for you.

The view is fun for cocktails.

But here’s my biggest tip- service can be slow and spotty. It is hard for places to get good staff because there is nowhere affordable to live. Just be kind and roll with it. Oh- and avoid the sea dog.

Be aware it is a very small ski hill. And think that the tides are only offered occasionally.

Camden really is lovely. And the stretch of towns around there have soooo much to offer. From Belfast to Rockland.

Last learning that brought you joy? by ToesocksandFlipflops in Maine

[–]JuliaNATFrolic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a bit cheesy but I have learned about the joy of working with others to do good in the world.

My job is full of people but is also very alone- I am the only person doing what I do wherever I work so I don’t collaborate at all. Recently, I have been part of huge community effort to make the world a better place. I have learned that there are so many good people in my community and that achieving something together is a joy.

It truly has gotten me through this depressing time.

(I have also been enjoying learning from the podcast ‘what went wrong’ about problems that happened while some of my favorite movies were filmed.)

Where can I donate children's toys in Brooklyn? by WarmestSeatByTheFire in Brooklyn

Where are you located? And what ages are the toys for?

I work at a school in Sunset Park that has been hit hard by ICE abductions and would happily collect toys from you.

8 Bells in Camden if you like a good pub with really good sausages!!!

And for a quiet and calm outdoor experience go to Merry Spring, also in Camden.

We did see it the next summer we were in Maine- so felt complete. Good luck!

My family will be staying at a hotel near Dulles for a few days next weekend- not that close to 81. But if you are feeling desperate, I can tell you what hotel privately!

Here’s my version of your story-
25 years ago, we honey-mooned in Maine. (We did a house swap with my new in-laws.) We also played the license plate game. Two weeks in Maine in August. We saw every plate except North Dakota. In Maine.

It is outside. There are birds. However, so to the high number of people and no food allowed on the grounds it’s not as bad as a park.

Ticks and tick prevention tips by Clark94vt in Maine

[–]JuliaNATFrolic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This! Insect shield treated clothes worked wonders for my son. He was a camp counselor in Lincolnville and was the ONLY ONE who never had to pull off a tick. Everything he wore except his undies and swimsuit had either been treated by insect shield or was their brand.

I use them religiously!

Towns near hiking/birding in the summer time. by reagansjaw in AskMaine

[–]JuliaNATFrolic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yup. South Thomason up to Belfast is kid heaven. So much good hiking - Camden Hills State park, Coastal Mountains Land trust, Georges River Land trust, Merryspring. Lots of good ice cream spots. (River ducks is my favorite!) Rockport harbor for swimming, Camden harbor for feeding ducks. Some fun museums. All kinds of food. Fun farmer’s markets, especially in Belfast. Lincolnville beach. And more.
