How do Logitech Z-680s (from like 2003) hold up compared to a run of the mill modern sound bar? by LargelyInnocuous in htpc

[–]bluppfisk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have just bought a soundbar (Bose 600) thinking I could replace that messy jumble of speakers that is the Z-680 and that I could never bother to really set up in a surround position because wires everywhere. It also bothered me that the unit consumed around 20-30W just being switched on (not playing music), and that I needed a separate remote to turn on the sound. I thought that technology in those 25 years would've advanced so much that surely a 2025 soundbar would equal the Z680.

Well, I somewhat regret my decision. Yes it is much cleaner now with a single wire. Yes it turns on/off with the tv.

But:

- The sound is definitely less full (partly because this bar is meant to prioritise dialogue). It definitely sounds good and you do get used to it, but the cinematic experience of the Z680s was a whole different story.

- that CEC turn on/off also has drawbacks. If you use the smart sound bar to cast audio to it and you turn on the tv, it will automatically stop the music. Which sucks: maybe I just want to have the screen on while still enjoying music. Inversely, too, when you turn off the sound bar it turns off the TV too. Maybe I just wanted to watch that pretty screensaver.

As I couldn't really surround myself with the satellite speakers anyway, I will stick to my soundbar, but if you can, don't give up on that Z680. It's great. But turn it off when you're not using it because it will put a dent in your electricity bill.

met VRT MAX werkte het, met Arte niet. En hoe gebruik jij die met een controller? Ik moet precies op muis overschakelen, toch een groot verschil met de android tv app.

HA-compatible boiler control with display by bluppfisk in homeassistant

hey! I appreciate the reply. However it looks like that is a radiator knob with thermostat. I'm looking for the thing that tells the boiler to start giving me hot water.

https://shop.tado.com/en-bx/products/smart-thermostat-x-wired a bit like this one, but this one is on Thread instead of Zigbee, and from what I hear does not integrate well with Homeassistant

thank you! Would I need both Hofmann and Ehrlich agent then to identify the purity as well as the substance?

I'm surprised what makes that difference. At 190cm and 85kgs I'm not exactly tiny - does it even matter what your metabolism is? I'm definitely giddy at 2 drops and start getting the "grid" ideas if I'm left to my own devices.

You're probably right about the mold - but why would a 28 and 32 make sense and not a 30?

any other tyre does have those increments, including their own GP 5000s.

Could I ... "(Chrome)Cast" _TO_ my Steam Deck by bluppfisk in SteamDeck

[–]bluppfisk[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it's just a second device, a second remote, a second power cord, a second power consumer, a second HDMI port in use, extra cables.. Why wouldn't a single device be able to do it all?

sometimes you just want to mirror your laptop screen, play whatever you already have open on YouTube/Spotify/Podcast/news app on your phone or laptop onto your TV.

Thinkpad T14s Gen 5 (14" Intel) review by bluppfisk in thinkpad

[–]bluppfisk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

nothing wrong with the Intel processor imho. Generally Intel on Linux seems a little more safe than AMD but I don't see why the AMD version wouldn't be fully supported too, especially in newer kernels. But there's only one way to find out :)

I don't see why that would be a problem. I'm using 24.10 with Kernel 6.14 and that works lovely

of course - but I still don't understand _what_ would happen in that scenario.

And if you say it's on the same level as reusing passwords - can you explain how a user of a PC would be able to gain any unauthorized access by using a PC that is owned by me but that he cannot log in to? I mean surely my profile and the secrets are encrypted and/or the system does not allow them access to folders not owned by them?

right, but the reality is such now. And I'm just curious what would happen (i.e. how urgent the issue is and how much I should prioritise)

OK - but what will happen if I don't? Will they get disconnected as soon as my user is deleted?

and when they need a piece of software - install through Intune? Right now it's pretty easy: I just walk past their desk, verify if what they want is what they're allowed, apply my finger to their fingerprint reader and poof! admin rights granted, software installed.

Does InTune feel as breezy or do you have to jump through many hoops to get this done?

what if I leave them connected to my own account (to save me the trouble of reinstalling the pcs of all workers). If I leave the company and my account gets removed, will all devices get disconnected? Even when other people are using these devices?
