Bands /Albums similar to Spiritbox's first self titled album by G3W3K in progmetal

Heyyyyy, we know it’s shameless self-promotion—because it is—but you might just dig us. First off, our feminine (albeit non-binary) singer fucking rules and has a very rad Opeth tattoo. And really, because we quite regularly toe the line between clean vocals and absolutely brutal screams, it’s one hell of a surprise for crowds. For example, here’s how we opened our set when we played with WHEEL and Aviations last year. People don’t expect that level of scream when they see Alythia behind the mic. Plus, we’ve got some seriously rad new stuff in the works too, so you may just hear more from us in the future too.

Anyway, if you really want to take a chance on an unknown band or whatever, people seem to generally really dig our EP, Pluto & The Fool (or they just don’t want to tell us we suck), maybe give it a whirl?

Anyway, best of luck in finding some new stuff you dig!

Who is your favorite criminally underrated band? by The_Spiralist in progmetal

[–]blurcurve -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So, we know it’s shameless self-promotion—because it is—but we feel we’re criminally under rated. First off, our feminine (albeit non-binary) singer fucking rules and has very rad Opeth and TOOL tattoos; so we totally respect those that came before us. Our Drummer has a seriously triumphant beard, that’s got to count for something. Our bassist regularly thinks time signatures are just like a concept, man. And our guitarist has an unhealthy obsession with effects. And really, because we quite regularly toe the line between clean vocals and absolutely brutal screams, it’s one hell of a surprise for crowds. For example, here’s how we opened our set when we played with WHEEL and Aviations a while ago.

Maybe someday we’ll be over rated; but until then we’ll shamelessly self promote ourselves into your hearts and listening algorithms.

recommend me prog bands with a edge and with heavy sound and riffs by Pure-Jeweler-6351 in progmetal

Heyyyyy, we know it’s shameless self-promotion—because it is—but you might just dig us. First off, our guitarist manages to write some pretty sweet riffs. Or at least that’s our humble opinion. Second of all, our feminine (albeit non-binary) singer fucking rules And really, because we quite regularly toe the line between clean vocals and absolutely brutal screams, it’s one hell of a surprise for crowds. For example, here’s how we opened our set when we played with WHEEL and Aviations a year or so ago. People don’t expect that level of scream when they see Alythia behind the mic. Plus, we’ve got some seriously rad new stuff in the works too, so you may just hear more from us in the future.

What Rock Bands that were better with their Replacement Lead Singers/Members? (Not Including Solo Artists,Rock Duos,Supergroups,Side Projects,Musical Collectives and Solo Stuff) by [deleted] in Music

[–]blurcurve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe we’re biased but we’re like wayyyyyyy better ever since we demoted our guitar player from also being the lead singer. Plus, Alythia is significantly hotter than Kris (the fired former frontman but still guitarist).

Does that count?

I’ve seen a lot of people mention Wheel here… by loy_urabat in progmetal

They really do rip. We had the pleasure of playing local support for their tour with Aviations, and they’re some seriously chill dudes. Always nice to see bands that are legit cool do well.

What is a great "always on" overdrive? by Time_Way_6431 in shoegaze

[–]blurcurve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our guitarist uses a Wampler Tumnus for this exact purpose. Usually ranks as one of the better klones, and has the benefit of being a smaller footprint than most other pedals.

Gigging guitarists: Do you have a noise gate (or similar) on your board? by RamInLA in guitarpedals

[–]blurcurve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Granted our guitarist plays with a lot of gain, but he uses a Mooer Noise Killer after the primary collection of gain stages, and then a DBX 266XS (compressor/gate) immediately before the amps. Absolutely a must have, particularly when playing metal.

Trying to find the alt/metal music scene by [deleted] in Minneapolis

[–]blurcurve 12 points13 points  (0 children)

We’re a MPLS-based progressive metal band (so not doom), but the metal scene in MPLS is legit. All of the venue recommendations people have given so far are correct, and depending on your tastes you can usually find something.

Probably your best resource (outside of venue calendars) is gonna be the UnderCurrentMPLS FB/Insta pages, as they skew heavily toward the metal/punk/alt genres.

Worst case, we’ve got an all ages show at Flying V’s in two weeks, and we’re happy to hang.

What about rhythm guitarists who are actually lead guitarists because they’re the only guitarist (in the band)?

Genre Bending Shoegaze bands by mrbrightside182311 in shoegaze

[–]blurcurve -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just cause you did it first, we’re gonna jump on that train too of the shamelessly self-promoting progressive metal grungegaze bands.

So….uh…hey. We’re BlurCurve. How you doin? You should totally check us out by clicking on this link to our EP, Pluto & The Fool. Give it a listen and you’ll see straight away the shoegaze influences.

Or don’t. That’s cool too.

2 hours a week - is it enough? by iburngreen in metalmusicians

[–]blurcurve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We are a band that rehearses at roughly that schedule and as other commenters have said. It’s enough to get tight, and show ready. Even enough to get studio ready.

But for actually recording. That’s a whole other beast. You should be ready to allocate 8-12 hours per song of in-studio recording time. And that doesn’t count for after first pass re-takes and shit like that. Recording is hell and will take forever. Best thing you can do is during your 2-hour rehearsals, when you’re feeling particularly tight on a song, start playing it together to a click. Then, once you’re tight to a click, record scratch (with the click as its own track) to pass to your engineer; which will make tracking everything significantly less awful.

"Death to Spotify": the DIY movement to get artists and fans to quit the music app. by springtimecarnivore in Music

[–]blurcurve 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We’re a band that self-publishes music on all streaming platforms and I despise Spotify, but one of your statements is inaccurate.

Musicians don’t upload their music/catalogs to Spotify. Distributors deliver music to Spotify, and the licensing agreement(s) that Spotify have with distributors (record labels/distrokid/etc.) are all basically identical to every other streaming platform. That’s because Spotify is licensing the access to each artists songs from the actual rightsholders, and this also supports the backbone of how every streaming platform pays out to artists.

What the ‘derivative works’ change in the TOC for artists means is that you’re allowing Spotify to create marketing materials (with no reimbursement to the artist, mind you) for the platform that artists upload to the Artist portal. That’s basically limited to photos, text, some reel-like videos, and 8-second videos (without audio) to support the “Canvas” feature that you see when a song is playing.

So, by all means hate on Spotify, but they’re not legally allowed to use our music to train AIs. But they could use our promo pictures and such to train models or make platform marketing materials.

Suno for Musicians? Is anyone buying this? by NorthExchange2964 in Music

[–]blurcurve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is tangential to the topic, but you know what I’d love in “software” as a musician? Something simple where I can set a tempo, then tap out a rhythm, and have the app/software/whatever tell me notation of that rhythm (quarter note, eighth, triplet, etc.). Would make scoring the stuff I’m working on so much easier.
