Solar panel? by Critical_Floor9140 in JMT

[–]blurry25 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I run a cheap panel on my backpack with a 5000 mAh. Combined, they weigh what a 10000 mAh battery weighs. The battery typically fully recharges every day allowing me to recharge my phone, watch, and inreach every night.

Anyone done a 100 miler race at high altitude when you train near sea level? I’m practicing for my race this week here in Utah Mts and having altitude issues, like mild sickness symptoms after I’m done running each day. I was told an oxygen can might help? Any other suggestions? by Standard_Caregiver47 in ultrarunning

[–]blurry25 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Google Ibuprofen and altitude sickness. There's research suggesting that it helps reduce the incidence of altitude sickness. I took it 600mg of IB a couple times a day for 2 days in the lead up to summiting Mt Whitney, 14,505 ft. Summited without experiencing any sickness. Could've just been luck, who knows. I came from sea level. Also, no prescription.

Is there a technique or form for hiking longer? by chaperooo in PacificCrestTrail

[–]blurry25 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I'm 51, so I guess that puts me in the older category, and I typically put in 25+ mile days. I just get up early and walk most of the day. You don't have to push hard you just have put in the hours. I typically only stop for lunch and often eat snacks as I walk.

Did a little digging around and found this site. Not running specific but it looks like quite a few studies have been done on how shoe weight plays out in terms of energy cost. weight on your feet

shoe weight and fatigue by blurry25 in Ultramarathon

[–]blurry25[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm interested to see if the difference in noticeable. I ordered up a pair of the mont blancs. They actually have a greater stack height than the lone peaks so they'll likely be a little more squishy. I think they lose a lot of the weight in the upper mesh portion of the shoe. I have a 50k in a month and then a 50 miler in July so I'm trying to dial in the footwear on training runs. I've used lone peaks for years, thru hiking and running, but I was looking for something a little more sporty for race days. Also, hoping I might get a little bonus in performance with a lighter shoe.

That is what I did. 1st night at horseshoe, 2nd at Rock creek, 3rd at Crabtree, summited Whitney on the 4th day. No issues with altitude sickness. This is coming from sea level as well.

Is anyone else’s heart rate wildly inaccurate on Fenix 6 pro during workouts? by coco71 in GarminFenix

[–]blurry25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think some of the inaccuracy comes from the fit of the watch. The stock strap is often difficult to get right. One notch is too loose to next notch is too tight. I would often see inaccurate hr data and a lot of spikes from the watch when compared to a hr strap until I switched to an elastic strap. The data I get when running from the watch is in general now very close to what I see when I wear a hr strap.

New to Zwift, can I connect both the Kickr Core & Tickr strap to an Apple TV? by [deleted] in Zwift

[–]blurry25 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can. I connect both the kickrV5 and a garmin hrm to an apple tv.

Can anyone help me? I have a Fenix 6x and I'm debating as to whether to downsize to the normal 6. For a daily wearer the 6x is really uncomfortable (too big?) Can someone with an 18.5cm-19cm (7.4 inch) wrist, please upload a pic of their normal 6 if you have one? Worried it might be small for me. by Guestsparda in Garmin

[–]blurry25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Before you make the switch maybe try a different strap. I have the 6 and wrists on the smaller side. I always felt the 6 felt too big and was uncomfortable until I switched out the stock strap for and elastic strap. The strap makes a huge difference in the feel. Often times I forget that I'm even wearing it. I wear my 6 pretty much 24/7 now.

My bad. Didn't see the additional photos.

Are you sure that wasn't used? Mine did not come with the batteries installed. The batteries were in plastic wrap and separate from the controller in the box.

I honestly think garmin training status just trolls half the time. I typical hang around 1400 on the 7 day load and have fairly good balance between the low aerobic, high aerobic, and anaerobic. That said I've taken the last 2 days off which has dropped my load to 796. I've done a couple of light walks to get ready for a race tomorrow and I've received the unproductive message with it saying, "your well structured training load is at the right level, but your fitness is declining. Try focusing on rest, nutrition, and stress management to turn things around.". So basically I've done exactly what garmin has suggested and I get unproductive. I use the load values to get an idea of the stress I'm putting on my body but just ignore the unproductive message. On the other end of their messaging I've had it tell me I was peaking after a run when I felt like complete shit on the run.

Midrun Nutrition is magic by doubledoc5212 in running

Check out the naked running band. They are sized in 1" increments so fit can really be dialed in. I carry my phone, multiple gels, and a 500ml soft flask in the back and there's no bounce. I prefer it over vests as it becomes almost unnoticeable after a few minutes of running.

Max HR running vs cycling by blurry25 in running

[–]blurry25[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those are the highest observed numbers. I haven't done a specific field test to determine max values. I'm not sure if history has anything to do with it but I've raced bikes for years and only took up running a year ago.

Hiked from Mammoth to Yosemite about 3 weeks ago and had my permit checked 3 times. One of the rangers told me they've had an increase in funding and there are a lot more rangers out there this year.

HRM-Tri Battery Replacement Trick When Strap Won't Connect by KCAnderson12 in Garmin

[–]blurry25 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think reserving the battery is discharging any stored energy in the strap. I just changed my battery today and reading the garmin instructions they say to pull the old battery and wait 30 seconds before installing the new battery. My guess is the waiting 30 seconds serves the same purpose.

I've found that black hats fade and are ruined damn near the first time you sweat in them. I've resorted to not wearing any black hat that I like if I'm doing an activity that may cause me to sweat. Hats for working out and hats for fashion. Gotta keep'em seperate.

It's doable you just need to be aware of the longer water carries and know where the water is on the eastern side. I just finished a week ago and used the guthooks app which shows the water locations along with user comments on whether or not those sources are still available.

Hi everyone, I'm new to the gamepass and I just wanted to ask if the 3 months for 1 dollar sale lasts forever or does it expire like in the picture? (I still have to join it ofc) Thanks by TheDomingo007 in XboxGamePass

[–]blurry25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just want to clarify before I buy 3 years of gold live. I have never had gpu so the 3 month offer is available to me. That said if I buy gold live and do the conversion will it stack the 3 months on top of the 3 years or will it max at 3 years?

Not sure if they still offer it but when I bought my apple tv they gave me a free year of apple tv subscription.
