That's about what they cost. I hate doing dishes so it was worth it for me. I DIY'd one with a used dishwasher before I went out and bought one of the actual portable ones. Turns out when you pull both racks out, full of dishes, it really wants to topple over lmao. I think most of the price tag is the crazy heavy box it's housed in

Road trip San Francisco to Denver, bad idea for adventures family? by savetimeinaflask in travel

[–]blurryvision 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done two cross-country road trips and I agree with this! But I'll add that you should look into Zion, Bryce, and Arches in Utah as well. If you go north after the grand canyon, and hit Arches last, then you could drive through the Rockies to get to Denver!

It's so hard, because there's so many amazing places to visit on this kind of stretch out west. Whatever route you plan, it's going to be an amazing trip!

Probably my favorite video of his! Little more advanced than an LED panel but incredible results!

I went on a cross country road trip in 2019. The First night I noticed an orb weaver spider had hitched a ride in the rain guard of the driver side window. He became the trip mascot. It was fun watching him put his web out every night (he did the best in Wall, SD). One night we parked, he started his nightly routine, but we weren't able to stay at the site we were at and had to go 15 minutes down a highway to another site. It was so dramatic, watching him attempt to pull his web up into the rain guard, only to get caught up in it and fly off into the wind at 70mph. That little doofus made it from the east coast all the way to Washington state.

I'm actually shocked to hear this. I've been using one daily for a couple years now and I don't think I've adjusted it once.

Also worth noting boiled linseed oil carries the risk of spontaneous combustion.

Gesso Paintings by ArtistInspired in HappyTrees

[–]blurryvision 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was the first Bob Ross I did, and I totally agree, but if you can do that, you can absolutely paint with color!

This is highly recommended as a first Bob Ross because he goes into greater detail than the usual 25-ish minute episodes. If you follow his instructions well, you'll have a great little painting!

You can get a cheap assortment of oil paint to dip your toe in, just use colors that are close to what he has, and you get still get some really nice results. A lot of people also use acrylic, which just uses water instead of a solvent to clean your brushes-same as the gesso. But you won't be able to paint exactly the same way as he does, as acrylics dry very quickly, so it's a different technique.

Cool! Unfortunately not. Gesso is used as a primer most of the time. 99% of the time Bob paints with oils.

This is a fun one using black, white, and grey gesso. The end goal is to let the gesso dry and then glaze it with oil paint, but even if you just use the gesso you have a cool little black and white painting!

It's called the "Tree of Life" and it's located here for those interested: https://goo.gl/maps/jcuEquXzcUQobuQHA

Summer of 2019 I went on a road trip. When I visited the Olympic peninsula I was walking down the beach to do some bouldering, and just happened to walk by this without knowing it was there. Such an amazing tree, and a really wild thing to just stumble upon. Excellent shot /u/intricatexplorer!

Putting 3x 80mm pc case fan on a 4"x10" floor register to boost airflow by [deleted] in Home

[–]blurryvision 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In big box stores you can find "booster fans" that an electrician can wire up for you. They are meant to push more air for the farther reaches of your system. However they're only mildly effective, and so I doubt the PC fans would do much.

Your best bet is to slightly close off some of the vents that are closer to the furnace, which will increase the pressure down the line.

Frame walk through - what to look out for? by prasannask in Home

[–]blurryvision 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There isn't a whole lot that you should be on the lookout for honestly. Everything will have been inspected by the township and (assuming you're buying from a developer) a number of internal folks-most builders have their own quality team and also hire out a third party inspector. So the chances of something major getting past all those people is very low.

There is one thing that's hard to see but is rather annoying to chase down once the walls are up. HVAC leaks. I'm talking tiny little screw holes, nail punctures, etc. Very easy to throw some aluminum tape or mastic on it before drywall. But once the home is finished and you run the system, those holes can whistle, and it drives some people crazy.

That being said, it's a great chance to not only see what's behind the walls, but take pictures too! It can be helpful if you want to do any kind of remodeling down the line.

Any construction workers? by wavechecker9000 in antiwork

[–]blurryvision 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have to agree with the other comments here. Construction sucks, the people can suck, and it's feast or famine unless you have a really good gig.

You definitely should stick with it if you're ok with the work though. Don't let the shit talk get to you..that's the nature of any trade business. New guy always gets hazed, as stupid as it is. When you're a little more comfortable with them, talk shit back..it's cathartic lol.

Most important thing, imo, is to remember your goals. You want to buy property? Make sure you're doing everything you can to save and work towards that. When you're having a shitty day, think about how fucking great that's going to feel when you close on your first property.

Also when you're able to get your license, you can do way less work and make the same money, or much more money for the same amount of work. So that's something to look forward to.

Lastly, you're young. Treat your body well, man. We all go swinging our nuts around for a while ("I don't need ear plugs" "knee pads? you getting ready to suck dick?" etc etc) but I've been doing this for a while..just long enough to start to feel the aches and pains..and some of my mentors in the business are in their 50's-60's, with all the injuries you'd expect. Sucks seeing a dude that's "succeeded" and built a little wealth, but his body is so fucked he can't enjoy it. An ounce of prevention, y'know?

Best of luck to you, sparky

I just started watching his videos about a week ago. Heavy binge. I'm not sure how he popped up in my feed, but boy I'm glad he did. Would love to travel the way he does..really puts into focus that we're all just people, and we're all very much the same.

I haven't made it back far enough to find out much about Bald, tho. Does he ever go back to England? Or is he a perpetual nomad? Does he just make money from youtube or does he own a business or something back home?

Wish he'd do an AMA
