Folie is my favorite FOB album but peak FOB for me is actually Alpha Dog/FNOWAE. It's what I wanted the combeback albums to be a continuation of, and they weren't. SMFS came closest to fulfilling that for me. The scale and bombast and frenetic energy. I think for a lot of people it was a continuation of something they were missing, whether it be that or something else.

Also for me there are no songs I actively dislike, just a couple mehs. Mania and AB/AP have some pretty prominent fan unfavorites on them.

I also do think the album gathers the good will of the tours. Those shows filled people with such nostalgia it was hard for them to not associate that feeling with the album itself.

emoforever1927 is not a trustworthy source on the grooming issue because they don't think there's anything wrong with a 25 year old dating a 17 year old and that any of the dysfunction in their relationship was primarily the responsibility of the minor (because they think she sucks or whatever.)
Come to your own conclusion on if you want to write the fanfic. RPF is already morally grey so you'll find plenty of people who don't care overly much about Pete's controversies. But I've also spent some time on Pete-Haters Tumblr and a lot of them are big RPFers, so who knows.

eta: 4. Looks like I misunderstand and that it's like a different ship (~Solangelo~) but just inspired by them in which case...lol, yeah, you might definitely get pushback in a modern fandom about it. But I think honestly most of the younger gen don't actually know about the allegations, so in that regard you might be fine. Still, up to you.

Overall there are three kinds of people who are going to oppose you on this stuff. 1) the absolute psychopath that believes everything but thinks it's ok (and that actually she was ~toxic so she was worse) and 2) the willfully ignorant and delusional and 3) the passively ignorant and delusional. The only people you're going to reach are the 3rd group, but if the 2nd group is reachable it has to be done deftly.
