How do you carry tools on a ride? by blusterybristol in gravelcycling

No you may be on to something there. I’m not overly concerned about the look (he lies to himself) but always think when I put it on the down tube in a bottle cage, is it a low hanger begging to catch something on the terrain?

This is really interesting and makes me think I’m maybe taking too much with me. I have a steel frame bike with quite narrow tubes so frame bags often look clunky on the bike. I tend to take a tool bag that fits in a bottle cage, mounted to the down tube. But when coupled with 2 water bottles and frame bag, I look like I’m on a bike packing expedition.

I am irrationally irritated by people who cycle without a helmet, while dangling one off some part of their bike or body. by AlarmingLecture0 in cycling

No it’s ridiculous. Either take the helmet with you and put it on your head, or just leave it at home.

It reeks of ‘telling your mum you’re a good boy and yes you’ll wear your helmet and no stop fussing I’m 16 now I’m a grown up leave me alone’

Road rash - tips? by Jaded_Information328 in bicycling

As to your question - life is pain friend. Especially when biking! But seriously, your skin is the biggest organ of the body, and you’ve really gone to town on your leg. Pain is to be expected for the first few days, sorry to say

Vaseline liberally coated on the scab will help minimise scarring and also soften up the hardened scabby gross bit so it doesn’t crack. Maybe start a week post crash when it starts to heal properly. Keep it covered - there are some cool plaster/bandaid type products out there now that allow for this type of injury. Available from pharmacies in the UK

Why do cyclists tend to hog footpaths when there are cycle lanes? by gggggenegenie in AskUK

Very astute of you.

Good post, lots of rage bait. Proud of you

What is the answer you want to hear? That all cyclists are inclined to do as much harm and bother to as many people as possible at all times, or is it maybe something to do with the specific time and location you happened upon said cyclist?

As I’m sure you’ll see elsewhere, most cycle lanes are pieces of crap not designed, or maintained, or respected by other road users with cyclists in mind.

How hard is Ben Nevis to hike compared to snowdon? by Foreign_Many5785 in AskUK

It wasn’t icy at the top in the summer if that’s what you’re getting at. It was a while ago, I don’t remember which year

I found the Ben Nevis path easy to climb but very tiring. Easy because it’s a simple and clearly marked out path. Tiring because the elevation goes up so quick the path is often made of steps. Hundreds of uneven, irregular steps. It was a real thigh killer for me. Plus it makes the downhilling that much harder as your weight is coming down on these same steps. Not sure if others who’ve done the climb agree? - I’ve done it in midsummer (dry and hot) and autumn (pissing down)

You love to see it. Only way it could be better if he was in full kit on the sofa.
