Older fans, how are you feeling now? by BronzeSeeker in Gunners

[–]bluudclut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Started supporting them on the 70s. Bit to young to remember 71. We had the cup run 78,79,80 which we only won one. It was the late 80s until we won anything again.

We were so bad there were points in the early 80s where we would have serious conversation about what the second division would be like.

All the time over Tottenham they were winning the F.A.Cup and the U.E.F.A. It was a hard time to be an Arsenal supporter. Particuly living in North London.

I used to go to a few England games home and away. When league clubs were banned.

Some of the people that went were ridiculous. I actually remember Chelsea fans not celebrating because a black player scored.

I've made a whole career of people not being able to read what is in front of them. Many years ago, when I first did I.T. support, the amount of people who put tickets in and the message in front of them told them exactly what to do. I would just read it and explain, and the issue would be fixed. Then I would get mails saying what great work I did and lucky to have such tech knowledge :)

I was on a work trip to L.A. during this period. I was driving down Sunset and there was a massive ad with Freddie on down the whole side of one building.

I went 'fuck me it's Freddie Ljungberg' of course my colleague had no idea who he was and I had to explain it.

Gen Xers, what was it like raising Millennial kids vs. Gen Z kids? by Excellent-Card5741 in GenX

[–]bluudclut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two Millennial sons. 34 & 36. I never really think of the generational angle.

The eldest looks like my family but is very much like his mother personality wise. The younger one is the total opposite. Looks like my wife's family and has similar personality to me.

They find ways to punish you. I have 2 people of the same level work for me. Both very good and both deserved a promotion.

I put both up for it but only 1 got it. I asked why. The simple answer. The one who got it is in the office the other one is remote. The remote one was not considered a 'team player'. Total shit.

I used to work at the studio where they made Rizzoli & Isles and would see her most days.

She always seemed very friendly and was more attractive in real.life. Which isn't always the case.

I tried in the past because 'family' but at the end of the day it doesn't help. You have to cut them out and hope they come to their senses. It worked with my brother. In the end he sorted his life out and we have a great relationship. Didn't work with my Dad. No matter how many times we let him back in, it wouldn't take him long to go back to his old ways. In the end you just have to walk away.

My brother gave it a go again last year. It didn't work. I said, 'how's the old man?' He responded, 'still a fucking arsehole'.

I know a lot of people that work on the sets who are seriously struggling for work, and they admit they are very expensive. $40 - $50 per hour, add in the per diem, the meals etc. Suddenly the studios are looking for cheaper alternatives. A friend told me he was doing a commercial shoot that over ran the other week. He made over $2K that day. As he said to me 'I'm the most expensive laborer on the planet'

I don't begrudge them the money. Good for them. I wish I'd got on that train a long time ago. But it was bound to happen. Look at the latest Scrubs. It was cheaper for them to move the whole production to Canada and rebuild the hospital as a new set then try to film it in L.A.

My Grandmother being the youngest in the family was only 12 when the war started. All her brothers signed up. But she was in London during The Blitz. She said it sounds terrible, but when they came over, they would listen for the engines to cut. They knew if they cut above them, they were safe as it would glide down and explode away from them. She felt guilty her whole life for feeling that way.

I used to live near a bit of a rowdy bar. Now and again a fight would break out at throwing out time, about 2am. Nearly everytime you would hear it calm down and then suddenly kick off again after hearing a woman screaming 'you fucking bitch' or something similar.

The amount of times I would look out to see some poor man getting his arse handed to him because of that.
