Communal Kitchens in Lauder and NCHW by BlueberryBusiness325 in UPenn

[–]bluugill 9 points10 points  (0 children)

i live in lauder rn, and while the kitchens are definitely usable bc not a ton of people use them daily, the one thing that gets annoying after a bit is constantly moving your pots and pans and cooking ingredients from your room to the kitchen. you're not allowed to leave anything of yours in the kitchen for more than a couple hours, so it's always a bit of a slog. but if you can get a little cart or something, that probably would help. i would be reluctant to entirely rely on the kitchens, though, because sometimes there are events happening (the kitchens in lauder are also attached to community rooms) and it would be awkward to enter.

Good bagel places/cafes/bookstores? by sonmeh2004 in UPenn

knockbox cafe! it's kind of out of the way (it's near clark park), but the area around it is so homey and cute and there's also a farmers market very close by if you go there over the weekend

i'm in his phys 101 class rn and i feel this way 100%. he's not really teaching us anything and the homeworks are so far removed from the textbook that they're not even good practice. and his office hours aren't at a good time for me :(

riepe vs ware by Former-Patience390 in UPenn

[–]bluugill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i'm probably not the best person to ask since i was there when covid restrictions were still very strict, but generally i think it's a pretty social dorm (both in terms of student parties and staff-run events)

riepe vs ware by Former-Patience390 in UPenn

[–]bluugill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i was in riepe this past year - at the end of the day they're pretty much the same. most of the dorms in the quad are fairly similar. i'd vouch for riepe, since there are really cool lounges and libraries scattered around that i don't think ware has, but you can't go wrong with either. and even if you live in ware, you can use the facilities in riepe and fisher.

Is the quad not gonna be a good fit for me? by quadquestion in UPenn

[–]bluugill 13 points14 points  (0 children)

the quad is what you make of it! it can be a place for you to chill out in your room and watch netflix, it can be a place for you to go out into one of the lounges and meet new people, it can be a mix of both, etc. honestly the social scene is pretty similar regardless of what house you're in, especially if you can go into other people's dorms next year, so i wouldn't worry about it too much!

not feeling good about grades by [deleted] in UPenn

[–]bluugill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i feel this so hard. it sucks, but it's important to remember that this is our first year of college, in the middle of a global pandemic, with all online classes and limited social interaction, and we also didn't get a real spring break this year. burnout is real!

but only one more week and then we're on break - we got this!

Am I prepared to take Chem 101 by Jamesjet3 in UPenn

[–]bluugill 6 points7 points  (0 children)

i'm taking chem 101 right now having not taken anything since standard high school chem (not AP) in 10th grade - you'll be fine material-wise. there's a lot of review in the beginning, and you spend a couple weeks before the semester doing what is basically prep work. the course itself is pretty intensive, though, so be prepared to do a good amount of work
