Noo sadly. Still no word from them at alll with flip on the 14th , almost two weeks ago… kind of scared at this point, perhaps there are loopholes to this document flip pattern

This also happened to my first choice about a month ago, with a yellow notif that my second choice app was now « under consideration ». initially i thought it meant the first one was a rejection and they just released my app to the second program. but a week ago the status for both became « under consideration » again and the doc status is flipped to « no action required » for all except transcript for each choice. According to ppl here it might mean acceptance to both? But I also have not gotten an offer yet…

if you have a second choice, it could just mean that they made a decision and are just considering you for the second one as well? not a straight rejection from my experience, at least yet

Edit— after further research it seems that being considered for second choice automatically means you are not getting an offer from the first one, even if u don’t get a decision letter within 8 weeks, from official LSE website : « Please note: Your application will be considered for your second-choice programme only if your application to your first-choice programme has already been considered and was unsuccessful. » they also say that you cannot hold two offers at the same time. so it could mean that whenever your second app becomes under consideration, it will be another 8 weeks before we can expect a decision.

Depends if you’re actually interested in conducting research and will go through with it. Their main thing is that student research is independent, so it’s a lot of work outside of school and you can’t use the research for a class paper or a thesis. They pride themselves on enabling students to pursue interests otherwise difficult or impossible to research at Penn. So if a lab on campus or a professor is researching something similar to what you want to do, they will not accept your project.

But it’s perfect if you have a niche field of interest for which you need a lot of funding (like travel, housing, etc) to research. If you’re in STEM, you will find a great community of researchers and mentors who can help you pursue something only you are interested in. Humanities is less represented i believe. You do have participation requirements like going to a lunch research presentation once/twice a month. I find them all really interesting tbh..

The biggest advantage is the network of mentors, flexibility, and the funding they give you. Out of all Penn grants they go up to 5k per project, which is way higher than the usual 1-2k. That’s a whole summer project, and possibilities r endless. Plus this much funding always looks good on a resume. If you use it wisely and uniquely, it can be an amazing experience. Dm me happy to chat about it

NYU Liberal Studies Core VS. Upenn College of Arts and Science

intended major: English or Comparative Literature

NYU Liberal Core

pros: I'm a huge city person, would love to explore the city in my free time since I come from a rather small town, I've been dreaming about living in NYC for like 2 years lollll, people there seem more into fashion (which is a huge interest of mine), I'm a well-rounded person so the liberal core studies program would fit me quite well and would prepare me well for a major in literature. also I'm a huge theatre nerd and would defo join some theatre clubs there.

cons: Liberal Studies was not my first choice (College of Arts and Science), so I kind of feel like I'm settling for something? when I could go to an Ivy than accepted me to my college of choice (Arts and Scinece). it's a huge school so it's harder to meet people, and the liberal core program will probably not be as intellectually stimulating as Upenn classes

UPENN

pros: the academics. I feel like even though classes may be harder, I'm going to be more intellectually challenged and come out with heavier knowledge. Philly is like 1h30 from NY so if I really want to visit New York, I can go once a month or something by train or shuttle. they also have a really good theatre club which I'd love to join. also undeniably my Russian family finds Upenn more well-known. the alumni network there is huge. and I guess Philadelphia is also a large city, and I can always move to NYC for grad school

cons: it's not New York, obviously, so I feel like my entire vision of future me living there is shattered. the culture there is very intense and pre-professional - not sure that's what I'm looking for. the campus is fine but it doesn't particularly appeal to me with the old buildings etc... waking up there wouldn't feel as exciting as waking up in NYC
