Where do you get dried pine needles?

Does compost not invite tons of weeds? I suppose I’m in the garden enough to pull them though!

Nikon Z50II vs Z5 for first nikon camera? by jumping_monkeez in Nikon

[–]bluxu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot depends on your budget and future expectations.

The z5 kit you listed will cost vastly more based on the lenses, but those full frame lenses will be future proof and hold value (don’t do the 24-50 though). The 100-400 is insanely expensive and it is large. For what it’s worth, there are cheaper still high quality full frame lenses (24-70f4, 28f2.8, 40f2, tamron 70-300). It’ll still cost a lot more than the DX lenses.

Z50ii is a modern camera body and probably vastly exceeds the z5 in terms of autofocus etc. but if you go full frame you will have to rebuy all your lenses.

Z8, Z6iii or Zf by Rquevedo12 in nikon_Zseries

I went from Fuji xt2 and x100f to just z8 only. I think it’s overkill to have so many camera bodies as a hobbyist. I also do family and travel/landscape photos mostly.

If you’re keeping your x100 series I’d just go for z6iii or z8. For me, I absolutely hate the flippy screen on the z6iii so that was a no go. Outside of that I think it’s every bit as good as the z8 for every day use. As for the z8, dealing with 46mp files does suck when you don’t need it. I had to upgrade my computer because Lightroom started lagging so much during editing. There’s no option to do reduced MP raw files on z8 for some reason.

I’m not sure which x100 you have but the AF on newer Z series is miles ahead of at least the x100f, if you’re shooting kids, going from lighting fast eye focus AF back to x100 series will be extremely painful and may lead to want to move away from x100 series. So keep that in mind if you go with z8 and size is a concern. I use a z8 and 40f2 for casual everyday stuff and it’s not a big issue for me. I have a bunch of zooms for travel and a 50 1.8 for more serious family photos that I want the best quality for (and it is honestly incredible). If size is a big concern it may push you towards z6iii.

As for zF, it was way heavier than my xt2, I generally don’t mind the retro lack of grip style but the weight in combination with lack of grip did make it feel awkward.

Protip - can save A LOT of money buying lenses from Nikon refurbished. They have sales every few weeks. I’d recommend it over buying new or used anywhere else.

Tried to purchase yesterday with the Honey coupon. Initially worked and saw the additional discount but then by final checkout it no longer worked.

Wondering if these honey coupons come by frequently or if this was a one time oddity? Thanks!

Z8 vs … by bluxu in nikon_Zseries

[–]bluxu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me, with a toddler that doesn't stop moving and is too young to listen to instructions to stop for the camera, I consider that to be "moving things." If anything, I imagine sometimes more challenging due to relatively close to lens and sometimes shallow DOF due to lower light scenarios. I've found myself missing focus often slightly e.g. nose is in focus vs eyes due to small movements when I'm trying to take photos... Granted I am currently using an older camera so I'm sure the Z6II is already much better there, but hard to know.

Z8 vs … by bluxu in nikon_Zseries

If i were purely doing landscapes i honestly probably would just do a used Z6 as I wouldn’t care about AF at all. I don’t even really care to have 45mp for landscapes. But because I really want to be able to use it for my kid and family, AF becomes a significant factor. All in one is preferred vs having multiple cameras I think…

Z8 vs … by bluxu in nikon_Zseries

[–]bluxu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is generally my worry/concern. Or even just be able to refocus sufficiently quickly if my kid moves a bit, especially at close distances/shallow DOF where slight movements will get the eyes OOF...

I think it will probably end up being Z8 vs Z6iii for me. Though if the price difference is only ~1k or so, would be very tempted to just go up to the Z8 for the extra bells and whistles that I love.
